ELLISVILLE – Top-ranked Jones County Junior College broke a 2-2 tie with two runs in the sixth inning and defeated Baton Rouge Community College (Louisiana) 4-2 in game one of a doubleheader here Wednesday afternoon at Community Bank Park.
JCJC took a 2-0 lead in the third inning.
Tanner Huddleston (George County) led off with a double into the leftfield corner and
Jonathan Parker (New Orleans) was hit by a pitch. With one out,
Jacob Hiatt (Petal) was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Luther Woullard (D'Iberville) followed with a two-run double.
The Bears tied it in the fifth.
Nicholas Cucci and Mossy Mueller got one-out singles and Charles Belair reached on a fielder's choice. Tyler Laporte followed with a two-run single.
The Bobcats took the lead for good in the sixth.
Shelton Wallace (Northwest Rankin) was hit by a pitch to start the inning and advanced to second on a passed ball.
Tanner Huddleston (George County) reached on an infield single.
An errant pickoff attempt allowed Wallace to score and Parker's single scored Huddleston.
Ben Stiglets (Gulfport) went the first eight innings and got the win. He allowed two runs, five hits, walked none and struck out eight as he improved to 2-0.
Tristan Labove (Petal) pitched the ninth and got his first save. He allowed no hits and gave up a walk.
Huddleston doubled and singled and Woullard doubled for JCJC. Parker and
Erick Hoard (Brandon) added singles.
Dillen Miller was the starter and loser for the Bears. He went six innings, allowed four runs (three earned), four hits, walked one and struck out three. Troy Whitty pitched two innings, allowed one hit and got a strikeout.
Laporte had two singles for BRCC, while Aidan Hodges, Cucci and Mueller added singles.
JCJC is now 7-0, while the Bears fall to 6-14.
