Box Score ELLISVILLE – A seven-run third inning keyed top-ranked Jones County Junior College to an 8-1 victory over Coastal Alabama in game one of a doubleheader here Tuesday afternoon at Community Bank Parrk.
JCJC stranded four baserunners in the first two innings, but sent 12 batters to the plate in the third.
Shelton Wallace (Northwest Rankin) led off with a single and
Erick Hoard (Brandon) followed with an RBI double.
Tanner Huddleston (George County) singled and
Jonathan Parker (New Orleans, Louisiana) came through with a two-run double. Parker would later score on a passed ball to make it 3-0.
With two outs,
Luther Woullard (D'Iberville) walked and
Jacob Hiatt (Petal) and
Tristan Labove (Petal) were both hit by pitches to load the bases.Fred Franklin (West Lauderdale) then singled to score a run, Wallace had a two-run single and Hoard delivered an RBI single.
Jones took an 8-0 lead in the fifth when Labove and Franklin both singled. Labove later scored on a wild pitch.
The Warhawks' only run came in the sixth inning when Jeffery Snow doubled, Thomas Moore singled and Harrison Moore got an RBI single.
Sophomore
Ben Stiglets (Gulfport) was excellent in his first start of the year. He held the Warhawks hitless through five innings and got the win. He went six innings, allowed one run, three hits, walked one and struck out two.
Kyle Shepherd (Collegiate Christian Academy) tossed an inning and allowed one hit.
Brayden Hodge (South Jones) finished the game, going two innings, allowing no hits and striking out two.
Hoard and Parker each doubled and singled, while Franklin and Wallace each had two singles.
Grant Schulz (New Orleans, Louisiana) doubled, with Huddleston,
Hudson Harris (West Jones),
Caleb Ledet (Houma, Louisiana), Labove and
J.D. Polles (Presbyterian Christian School) adding singles. Wallace and Hoard each had two singles.
The Bobcats had several outstanding defensive plays, including a diving catch by Woullard in right-center and stops by Huddleston and third base, Schulz at shortstop and scoops by Hoard at first base. JCJC turned three double plays.
Christian Griffin went 2 2/3 innings, allowed six runs, seven hits and got the loss. Wyatt Butler and Zach Paulene finished up on the hill for Coastal Alabama.
Snow doubled, while Harrison Moore, Saulnier and Thomas Moore singled.
