Five-run fifth inning lifts No.1 Bobcats

ELLISVILLE –  Top-rated Jones County Junior College used a five-run fifth inning to win its season opener here on a beautiful Friday afternoon at Community Bank Park.
The Bobcats trailed 1-0 entering the fifth inning when they got the offense going.
Grant Schulz (Mereaux, Louisiana) led off the inning with a single and Luther Woullard (D'Iberville) followed with a game-tying double into the leftfield corner. After a flyout, Tristan Labove's (Petal) infield singled scored Woullard to give Jones a 2-1 lead.
Fred Franklin (West Lauderdale) reached on a fielder's choice and Shelton Wallace (Northwest Rankin) followed with an RBI single. Erick Hoard (Brandon) singled and Tanner Huddleston (George County) reached on an error.
Jonathan Parker (New Orleans, Louisiana) followed with a two-run single to give the Bobcats a 5-1 lead.
The Saluqis, who had taken a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a solo home run by Rusber Estrada, got a run back in the sixth inning when Jacob Nobles singled and later scored on an error.
The Bobcats closed the scoring with a run in the bottom of the sixth. Jacob Hiatt (Petal) doubled, took third on a wild pitch and scored on an error.
Mason Strickland (South Jones), 1-0, started and posted the win with five solid innings. He allowed one run, three hits, walked two and struck out five. Reed Michel (West Lauderdale) pitched the final two innings, gave up one hit and struck out two.
Hiatt doubled and singled for the Bobcats, while Hoard had two singles. Woullard added a double with Wallace, Parker, Schulz and Labove adding singles.
Estrada homered for Southwest Tennessee with Ethan Stallings, Nobles and Dylan Smith adding singles.
Dillon Bonee started and took the loss. He went 4 2/3 innings, allowed five runs (three earned), walked one and struck out two. Grayson Hall pitched the final 1 1/3 innings, allowed one run, one hit and struck out one.
