ELLISVILLE – The 2016 MACJC Baseball Tournament will be at Community Bank Park.
Second-ranked Jones County Junior College made sure of that by crushing Mississippi Delta 15-2 in seven innings in Game 2 of their best-of-three playoff series here on a gorgeous Saturday afternoon. JCJC won Game 1 on Friday, 8-1.
JCJC, 43-5, will host the state tournament May 12-14. The tournament schedule will be announced Monday morning.
On Saturday,
Tanner Huddleston and
Erick Hoard crushed home runs, accounting for five and four RBIs, respectively.
Starter
Ben Stiglets allowed one run, two hits, struck out five and improved to 9-0 in his five innings of work.
After MDCC scored a run in the top of the first inning, it was all Bobcats after that.
Leadoff batter
Clint Sasser reached on an error and
Shelton Wallace singled in the bottom of the first. After Huddleston walked, Hoard followed with a two-run single. Huddleston would eventually score on a wild pitch to make it 3-1.
The Bobcats put the game away in the second when they sent 12 batters to the plate and scored six runs.
Jonathan Parker led off with a walk,
Fred Franklin singled and Sasser delivered an RBI single. After Wallace was hit by a pitch to load the bases,
Mason Irby walked to force in a run.
Huddleston then drilled a two-run double into the leftfield corner to make it 7-1. After a strikeout,
John Alan Wall had a two-run single to give JCJC a 9-1 lead.
Wallace led off the third with a single to left and Irby reached on an infield single.
Huddleston then hit his second home of the series and eighth home run of the year to center to give JCJC a 12-1 lead. Hoard and Wall then singled and Parker's sacrifice fly scored Hoard.
In the fifth, Huddleston led off with a single and Hoard launched his 14
th home run of the season with a deep drive over the leftfield wall to make it 15-1.
MDCC scored a run in the top of the seventh.
Tyler Spring worked the final two innings for JCJC, allowing a run, one hit, a walk and recording three strikeouts.
Huddleston homered, doubled and singled, while Hoard homered and singled twice. Wallace and Wall each had two singles with Sasser, Irby, Skelton and Franklin adding singles.
Weber Herbison, Clay LaBeff and Payton Lane each doubled for MDCC.
Starter Kenny Hinton, 2-1, went one-plus inning and took the loss. He allowed five runs (three earned), three hits, walked two and struck out one. Tyler Milligan pitched 1/3 of an inning and gave up four runs and four hits. Trey Dowdy pitched 2/3 of an inning and allowed four runs and four hits.
Peyton White pitched the final four innings for MDCC, allowed two runs, three hits, walked none and struck out seven.
