ELLISVILLE – The Jones County Junior College Bobcats continued its impressive run through the 2016 season.
JCJC whipped the Northeast Mississippi Community College Tigers, 12-2, in seven innings in game one here on a sunny Saturday afternoon at Community Bank Park.
Centerfielder
Fred Franklin blasted a three-run home run, doubled and drove in four runs, while
Tanner Huddleston singled twice and also had four RBIs as the Bobcats rolled to the win.
JCJC jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when
Shelton Wallace was hit by a pitch and stole second.
Mason Irby then reached on a fielder's choice when the Tigers tried to throw Wallace out at third, but Wallace was safe.
After Irby stole second, Huddleston delivered a two-run single to center.
The Bobcats made it 6-0 in the second.
Jonathan Parker singled and
Dalton Skelton reached on an error. Franklin's double to left scored a run and
Clint Sasser followed with a two-run double to left. Wallace singled and Irby bounced into a double play to score Sasser.
Northeast scored a run in the third when Taylor Bobo singled, Garrison Howell grounded out and Andrew Lambert got an RBI single.
The Tigers made it 6-2 in the fourth when John Murphree and Eric Patterson reached on back-to-back errors to start the inning. After Josh Stillman grounded into a double play, Bobo drew a walk. Murphree then scored on a passed ball.
JCJC then put the game away with a six-run, fifth inning.
Erick Hoard and
John Alan Wall singled to start the inning and Parker reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases. Skelton drove in Hoard with a sacrifice fly to left.
Franklin stepped up and lined his first home run of the season, a three-run shot over the leftfield wall, to make it 10-2.
Sasser then singled and Wallace and Irby drew walks to load the bases. Huddleston then singled to left to drive in Sasser and Wallace.
Ben Stiglets, 6-0, got the victory. He pitched five innings, allowed two runs (one earned), five hits, walked two and struck out two.
Will Brand pitched the sixth inning, gave up one hit and struck out the side.
Anthony Williams pitched the seventh inning, walked one and struck out two.
Sasser and Wall each doubled and singled for Jones, while Wallace and Parker both had two singles. Hoard had a single.
Stillman doubled and singled for the Tigers, while Howell and Lambert both singled twice. Bailey Walker added a double and Bobo singled.
Joseph Caver, 3-3, pitched one inning-plus and took the loss. He gave up six runs runs, seven hits, walked one and struck out two. Ben Gregory pitched to two batters and walked both of them. Graydon Graddy pitched 1 2/3 innings, allowed no runs, one hit and walked one.
