Hinds edges No. 2 JCJC, 4-3

ELLISVILLE – Hinds rallied to defeat No. 2 Jones County 4-3 in Game 1 of a doubleheader here Tuesday afternoon at Community Bank Park.
Hinds trailed 3-2 entering the eighth inning, but took advantage of a JCJC error to take the lead and post the win.
Trey Jolly led off the eighth with a walk and Hunter Wilson singled. Wilson was replaced by pinch-runner Donte Peters. Kyle O'Keefe then bunted to pitcher Tyler Spring. Spring threw high to first base and the ball rolled towards the rightfield corner, allowing Jolly and Peters to score.
The Bobcats were retired in order in the bottom of the eighth.
In the bottom of the ninth, Fred Franklin led off with a single and was sacrificed to second by Clint Sasser. But Hinds' reliever Brandon Ross got a pair of strikeouts to end the game.
Hinds took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Wilson hit a two-out home run over the rightfield wall.
The Eagles made it 2-0 in the third when Hunter Bell doubled and scored on a double by Jackson Mitchell.
JCJC tied with a two-run fifth.
Jonathan Parker led off with an infield single and was replaced by courtesy runner Chris Richardson. Franklin followed with a single and Sasser sacrificed the runners.
Richardson would score on a passed ball and Franklin scored when Shelton Wallace's ground ball to short was booted.
JCJC took a 3-2 lead in the sixth when Tanner Huddleston led off with a home run just inside the rightfield foul pole.
Erick Hoard doubled twice and singled for the Bobcats, while Huddleston homered and doubled. Sasser had two singles, while John Alan Wall, Dalton Skelton and Parker added singles.
Ben Stiglets was the starter for Jones. He went six innings, allowed two earned runs, eight hits, walked none and struck out one. Tristan Labove pitched an inning, allowed one hit and one walk.
Spring, 1-3, took the loss. He allowed two runs (one earned), one hit, walked one and struck out two. Will Brand pitched 1/3 of an inning and got a strikeout.
Wilson homered and singled twice for the Eagles, while Mitchell doubled twice. Bell had a double with Quinton Logan, O'Keefe, Acy Owens and Will Craft adding singles.
Brandon Ross, 1-1, pitched the final 3 2/3 of an inning and got the win. He allowed no runs, two hits, walked none and struck out five.
Starter Adam Jackson went 4 2/3 innings and gave up three runs (one earned), nine hits, walked none and struck out one. Timothy Jordan pitched 1/3 of an inning and gave up a hit.
