Fred Franklin had four singles and
Mason Strickland remained unbeaten as the No. 2 Jones County Junior College whipped Mississippi Delta 14-4 in seven innings in Game 1 here Saturday afternoon at Community Bank Park.
Jones scored twice in the first inning and was never headed.
Clint Sasser led off with a single, stole second and third, and scored on
Mason Irby's groundout. Huddleston reached on an error, Hoard walked and
John Alan Wall delivered an RBI single.
JCJC made it 5-0 in the second.
Franklin and Sasser singled and
Shelton Wallace walked to load the bases. Irby was hit by a pitch to score Franklin and Huddleston walked to score Sasser. Wallace would later score on a wild pitch.
The Bobcats took an 8-0 lead in the third.
Franklin singled, took second on a groundout and scored on a Wallace single. Irby's single scored Wallace and Huddleston's single scored Irby.
The Trojans scored twice in the fourth.
Payton Lane and Nathan Pilutti singled to start the inning. Jake Hartman's one-out single scored Lane and a sacrifice fly by Wendell Rieves would bring home Pilutti.
Jones took a 9-2 lead in the fifth when Franklin singled, Sasser sacrificed and Wallace followed with an RBI single.
MDCC pulled within 9-4 in the fourth when Lane doubled and Pilutti followed with a two-run home run.
The Bobcats put up a run in the fifth when Irby led off with a double. He was replaced by pinch-runner
Marcus Hardy, who later scored on an error.
JCJC ended the scheduled nine-inning game in the seventh on the "run rule."
Parker led off with a single and was replaced by courtesy runner
Chris Richardson. Franklin bunted his way on with a single and Sasser followed with another single. Wallace singled and Hardy doubled to end the scoring.
Mason Strickland, 8-0, remained unbeaten on the year. He went six innings, allowed four earned runs, seven hits, walked none and struck out seven.
Tristan Labove pitched the final inning and gave up a hit.
Franklin had four singles with Sasser and Wallace adding three singles each. Irby doubled and singled, while Hardy doubled and Huddleston singled.
Wallace and Irby each had three RBIs.
Pilutti homered and singled for the Trojans, while Lane doubled and singled and Hartman singled twice. Rieves had a double and Clay LeBeff added a single.
Lee Quates started and took the loss. He pitched 1 2/3 innings, allowed five runs (four earned), four hits, three walks and struck out two. DJ Stewart pitched 4 1/3 innings, gave up six runs (four earned), eight hits, walked one and struck out one. Henson pitched to four batters and did not retire a single one. He gave up three earned runs and four hits.
