No. 4 Bobcats rally to edge Holmes, 5-4

GOODMAN – Fourth-rated Jones County rallied to defeat Holmes in game two here Tuesday at Charlie Donald Field.
The Bobcats trailed 4-3 entering their final at-bat in the top of the seventh inning. But Shelton Wallace came through with a two-out, two-run single to lift JCJC to a 5-4 win.
The Bobcats are now 35-3 overall and lead the MACJC with an 18-2 record. JCJC has a five-game lead in the conference with eight games remaining.
The game was scoreless until the fourth inning when the Bobcats took the lead.
Clint Sasser led off with a single, advanced to third on a throwing error and scored on Shelton Wallace's groundout.
The Bulldogs plated three runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 3-1 lead.
JCJC tied it in the sixth.
Jonathan Parker was hit by a pitch to start the inning and was replaced by courtesy runner Chris Richardson. Sasser reached on an error and Wallace walked to load the bases.
Mason Irby' sacrifice fly scored Richardson and Tanner Huddleston was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Erick Hoard's single scored Sasser and made it 3-3.
Holmes got a steal of home in the bottom of the sixth to take a 4-3 lead.
In the top of the seventh, Dalton Skelton led off with a walk. Parker sacrificed and reached on an error. He was replaced by Richardson. Fred Franklin reached on a fielder's choice.
Sasser's groundout advanced Richardson to third and Franklin to second.
On a 3-1 pitch, Wallace came through with a single to left to score Richardson and Franklin and give the Bobcats the lead.
Tyler Spring then retired the Bulldogs in order in the bottom of the seventh to record his fifth save of the year. He notched a pair of strikeouts.
Reed Michel pitched the sixth inning and got the win. He allowed an unearned run, walked one and struck out one, as he improved to 3-0.
Starter Logan Robbins went five innings, gave up three runs, three hits, walked none and struck out four.
Sasser, Wallace and Hoard singled for JCJC's only hits.
Sloan Dieter went the distance and took the loss. He allowed five runs (none earned), three hits, walked two and struck out four.
Jarvis Griffith, Geoffery King and Tyrance Carr singled for all of Holmes' hits.
Holmes drops to 19-19 overall, 10-12 in league play.
The Bobcats will host Mississippi Delta in a 2 p.m. doubleheader on April 23.
Holmes visits Copiah-Lincoln on April 23.
