GOODMAN – Fourth-rated Jones County won a wild, 15-13 decision over Holmes here Tuesday afternoon at Charlie Donald Field.
The Bobcats took a 13-4 lead in the fifth inning and then had to hang on at the end.
Jones pounded out 18 hits en route to the win.
Holmes led 1-0 going into the second inning when
Erick Hoard led off with a double and scored on
Dalton Skelton's single to tie the game.
The Bulldogs led 3-1 after two innings when JCJC came back to tie it in the third.
Clint Sasser singled, Wallace was hit by a pitch and
Mason Irby singled to load the bases.
Tanner Huddleston's sacrifice fly scored Sasser and Hoard singled to score Wallace.
Holmes regained the lead 4-3 in bottom of the third, but JCJC tied it in the fourth when Skelton doubled and later scored on a wild pitch.
JCJC appeared to take control of the game with a nine-run, fifth inning.
Irby walked, Huddleston singled and Hoard was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Wall followed with a two-run single. Skelton sacrificed and reached on an error, which allowed Hoard to score.
Parker's single scored Wall and an error allowed Skelton to score to make it 9-4. Sasser then singled and stole second. Wallace reached on a dropped third strike, which allowed courtesy runner
Chris Richardson to score.
Irby delivered a two-run double and he would later score on a Hoard single to make it 13-4.
Holmes made it 13-7 in the fifth.
The Bobcats added a run in the sixth when
Fred Franklin singled and scored on Sasser's double.
But the Bulldogs plated six runs in the sixth to trim the lead to 14-13.
In the top of the eighth, Wall led off with a double and was sacrificed to third by Skelton. Parker then drove him in with a groundout to short.
Holmes got leadoff singles in the eighth and ninth innings, but reliever
Will Brand was able to keep the Bulldogs off the scoreboard.
Sasser, Irby and Hoard each doubled twice and singled for Jones with Skelton and Wall each getting a double and a single. Franklin had two singles, while Wallace, Huddleston and Parker added singles.
Ben Stiglets went the first five innings and posted the victory. Stiglets, 8-0, allowed seven runs (five earned), 10 hits, walked none and struck out two.
Jay Simpson pitched an inning, allowed six runs, six hits, walked two and struck out one.
Zach Taylor pitched an inning and gave up one hit.
Brand pitched two innings and got his first save of the year. He allowed no runs, two hits and struck out one.
Collin Merritt doubled twice and singled three times for Holmes, while Tyler Hines doubled and singled three times. Tyrance Carr doubled and singled twice, while Luke Lambert doubled and singled. Christian Smith had three singles, while Carr McMorris had a three-run home run and Ben Hudson singled.
Cody Greer was the starter and loser for the Bulldogs. He went 3 2/3 innings, allowed four earned runs, eight hits, walked one and struck out two. Michael Harrison pitched 1/3 of an inning, allowed four earned runs, two hits and walked one. Chase Allen went five innings, allowed seven runs (five earned), eight hits and struck out four.
