Arkansas Baptist hands Bobcats first loss of season

ELLISVILLE – The streak is finally over.
Arkansas Baptist broke a 2-2 tie with two runs in the fourth inning and went on to hand Jones County Junior College a 4-2 loss in game two of a doubleheader here Sunday afternoon at Community Bank Park.
It was the first loss of the season for JCJC. The Bobcats are now 17-1.

JCJC could not come up with enough offense against Arkansas Baptist.
The Buffaloes jumped ahead again in the top of the first.
Leadoff batter Derek St. Clair walked and Ryan Mallison singled. After JCJC starter Tyler Spring followed with a pair of strikeouts, Landen Colson delivered a two-run double.
JCJC got a run back in the bottom of the first when Shelton Wallace was hit by a pitch and Tanner Huddleston doubled him home.
The Bobcats tied it in the second when Chris Richardson lined his first home run of the season over the leftfield wall to make it 2-2.
Arkansas Baptist got its rally going in the fourth inning when Tomas Gonzalez led off with an infield single and took second on an error. Colson followed with a walk and was replaced by courtesy runner Austin Allen. A double steal put runners at second and third and Troy White's sacrifice fly to left scored Gonzalez.
Allen then stole third base. Clayton Douglas struck out, but reached when the ball got away from the catcher. That allowed Allen to score from third.
The Bobcats got back-to-back one-out singles in the bottom of the fourth from Erick Hoard and Jonathan Parker, but Richardson hit into a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning.
Dalton Skelton reached on an error to start the fifth inning, but the Bobcats could not drive him in.
Mason Irby singled to start the sixth and went to second on a wild pitch. But a strike out and two fly outs ended the inning.
The Bobcats were retired in order in the bottom of the seventh.
Richardson homered, Huddleston doubled and Irby, Hoard and Parker singled for the Bobcats.
Spring, 0-1, took the loss. He went the first four innings, allowed four runs (three earned), four hits, walked two and struck out seven. Reed Michel tossed the final three innings, allowed no hits and struck out three.
Kolby Green, 2-2, went the distance and got the win for Arkansas Baptist. He gave up two runs, five hits, walked none and struck out three.
Mallison singled twice, Colson double and Gonzales singled for the Buffaloes.
