WESSON – Jones County Junior College pounded out 10 hits and whipped Copiah-Lincoln, 11-1 in five innings in game two of a doubleheader here Tuesday afternoon at Sullivan Field.
The Bobcats took the opener, 3-2.
JCJC is now 26-2 overall and leads the MACJC with a 9-1 record. Co-Lin drops to 7-16 and 2-6.
JCJC jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first.
Clint Sasser and
Shelton Wallace singled and then both runners stole a base.
Tanner Huddleston's single scored Sasser and
Erick Hoard's groundout scored Wallace.
After the Wolves scored a run in the bottom of the first, the Bobcats answered with five runs in the second.
Dalton Skelton tripled with one out and scored on
Fred Franklin's sacrifice fly. Sasser reached on an error and Wallace was hit by a pitch.
Mason Irby's single scored Sasser and Huddleston followed with a two-run triple. Huddleston then scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-1.
The Bobcats closed the scoring with four runs in the top of the fifth.
Jonathan Parker led off with a walk and was replaced by courtesy runner
Josh Keel. Skelton drew a walk and Franklin bunted. The ball was thrown away, allowing Keel and Skelton to score.
Sasser's groundout sent Franklin to third. Wallace drew a walk and
Mason Irby followed with a two-run single.
Calder Mikell, 5-1, posted the victory. He pitched four innings, allowed an unearned run, four hits, walked one and struck out three.
Jay Simpson pitched the final inning, allowed no runs, one hit and struck out one.
Huddleston tripled, singled twice and drove in three runs. Irby singled twice and had three RBIs. Skelton had a triple with Sasser, Wallace,
Erick Hoard and Franklin adding singles.
Reed Taylor singled twice and Austin Irby tripled for Co-Lin. Lee Smith and Jackson Twitty added singles.
J.D. Evans went 1 2/3 innings and took the loss. He allowed six runs (two earned) and six hits. Ryan Cullop pitched 2 2/3 innings, allowed three runs (none earned), one hit, walked two and struck out one. Austin Odom pitched 2/3 of an inning, allowed an unearned run, two hits and walked one.
