WESSON – Jones County Junior College continues to roll on the baseball diamond.
Mason Strickland,
Zach Taylor and
Tyler Spring pitched the Bobcats to a 3-2 victory over Copiah-Lincoln Community College in game one Tuesday afternoon here at Sullivan Field.
JCJC took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when
John Alan Wall walked,
Jonathan Parker reached on an error and
Dalton Skelton singled to load the bases.
Clint Sasser's fielder's choice scored Wall.
Co-Lin tied it in the third, but the Bobcats regained the lead in the fifth.
Shelton Wallace and
Mason Irby walked and
Tanner Huddleston doubled to drive in Wallace.
The Bobcats made it 3-1 in the eighth.
Erick Hoard led off with a walk and was sacrificed to second by Wall. Parker then singled and sent Hoard to third. Skelton's sacrifice fly scored Hoard.
The Wolves loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the ninth, but only managed to score one run.
Strickland, 5-0, started and got the win. He pitched five innings, allowed one earned run, six hits, walked one and struck out seven. Taylor pitched the sixth inning and walked one. Spring pitched the final three innings and notched his third save. He allowed one run, three hits, walked one and struck out two.
Huddleston doubled twice, while Sasser, Parker and Skelton added singles for JCJC.
Champ Davidson singled three times for the Wolves, while Austin Irby tripled and singled and Reed Taylor singled twice. Matthew Mordecai and Jeremy Moore added singles.
Austin Douglas started and took the loss. He went 4 1/3 innings, allowed two runs (one earned), three hits, walked three and struck out four. Tanner Jones pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowed one run, one hit, walked two and struck out four. Steven Ginn pitched an inning and allowed one hit.
