BATON ROUGE, Louisiana – The Jones County Junior College Bobcats show no signs of slowing down on the baseball diamond.
Mason Irby hit his sixth home run of the season and
Ben Stiglets was sharp on the mound again as JCJC defeated Baton Rouge Community College (Louisiana) 8-3 in game two here Wednesday evening at Pete Goldsby Field.
The Bobcats, who rallied to win the opener, are now 14-0 on the season.
Stiglets has a 0.53 ERA in 17 innings pitched this season. Irby is hitting .614 with 24 RBIs through 14 games.
The Bobcats jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning.
Erick Hoard led off with a double and was sacrificed to third by
Jonathan Parker.
Chris Richardson doubled Hoard home. With two outs,
Fred Franklin walked. Richardson then scored on an error and
Clint Sasser singled to score Franklin.
Irby led off the third inning with a home run to put Jones ahead 4-0.
The Bears got a run in the third and two in the fourth to make it 4-3.
JCJC got a run back in the fifth when Irby walked and stole second.
Tanner Huddleston reached on a dropped third strike and Irby went to third. Hoard's groundout scored Irby.
The Bobcats ended the scoring in the sixth.
Franklin drew a walk and went to third on Sasser's single. Sasser stole second and
Shelton Wallace followed with a two-run single to center. Wallace advanced to second on a passed ball and stole third. He scored on Huddleston's groundout.
Stiglets, 4-0, went the first five innings, allowed three runs (none earned), five hits, walked one and struck out six.
Reed Michel pitched the sixth inning, gave up one hit, walked one and struck out three.
Tristan Labove pitched the seventh inning, allowed no hits, walked one and struck out two.
Sasser and Parker each singled twice, while Irby homered. Hoard and Richardson each double with Wallace and Huddleston adding singles. Wallace drove in two runs.
Joseph Domingue singled twice for BRCC.
Landyn Ragan was the starter and loser. He pitched three innings, allowed four runs (three earned), six hits, walked three and struck out two.
JCJC will be at home at Community Bank Park for four games this weekend vs. Arkansas Baptist College. The Bobcats host the Buffaloes in a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday and a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Sunday. All games will be seven innings and will air on

BRCC, 11-15, will play Mississippi Gulf Coast in a doubleheader on Saturday at MGM Park in Biloxi.
