ELLISVILLE – Freshmen Mason Strickland and Tanner Huddleston were on target for the Jones County Junior College Bobcats Tuesday afternoon.
Strickland, a South Jones product, allowed just one run over six innings and Huddleston, who prepped at George County, had three hits and drove in three runs to lead the Bobcats to a 6-1 victory over Southwest in game one here at Community Bank Park.
Strickland allowed one run, four hits, walked none and struck out five as he improved to 4-0.
JCJC jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
Shelton Wallace reached on an error and Mason Irby drew a walk. Huddleston followed with a single to drive in Wallace. With two outs, John Alan Wall reached on an error, allowing Irby to score.
The Bobcats added a run in the third.
Wallace reached on catcher's interference, stole second, advanced to third on Irby's ground out and scored on another Huddleston single.
The Bears scored their run in the fourth when Walt Aldridge singled, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on Ross Buckley's single.
JCJC took a 4-1 lead in the fourth when Dalton Skelton singled, Clint Sasser was hit by a pitch and Wallace singled to drive in Skelton.
In the fifth, Huddleston led off with a double, took third on a wild pitch and scored on Wall's single.
The Bobcats closed the scoring in the sixth. Sasser singled, Wallace walked and Irby singled to load the bases. Huddleston's sacrifice fly scored Sasser.
Huddleston doubled and singled twice, while Sasser, Wallace, Irby, Wall, Skelton and Jonathan Parker added singles.
Will Brand pitched two innings, allowed one hit and struck out one. Tristan Labove pitched a perfect ninth inning.
Jacob Buchanan pitched the first six innings and took the loss for the Bears. He allowed six runs (three earned), eight hits and walked four. Gerald Groue pitched two innings, allowed no runs and one hit.
Steven Williams doubled for Southwest, while L.D. Coney, Aldridge, Buckley and Tanner Whittington added singles.
