Spring, Wallace help Bobcats complete sweep of EMCC

ELLISVILLE – Tyler Spring pitched 4 1/3 innings of solid relief and Shelton Wallace homered as Jones County defeated East Mississippi 7-2 here Saturday evening at Community Bank Park in game two of a doubleheader.
The win completed a sweep as Jones won the opener, 12-2.
JCJC is now 21-1 overall and 4-0 in the MACJC. East Mississippi falls to 4-16 overall and 0-4 in the league.
East Mississippi jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning.
Whitt Davis led off with a walk and was sacrificed to second by Andrew White. After a strikeout, Alex Knight walked and Austin Lowther was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Jo McNabb and Taylor Stafford then followed with RBI singles.
The Bobcats took the lead with a three-run, two-out rally in the third.
Mason Irby drew a walk, stole second and scored on Tanner Huddleston's double. Erick Hoard reached on an error, which allowed Huddleston to score and Jonathan Parker drove in Hoard with a double to left-center.
The Bobcats made it 6-2 in the fourth.
Fred Franklin tripled to center and scored on Clint Sasser's single. Wallace then followed with a long home run over the scoreboard in leftfield.
JCJC's final run came in the sixth when Irby walked, stole second, went to third when the throw went into centerfield and scored on Huddleston's groundout.
Spring, 1-1, allowed no runs, four hits, walked two and struck out six in posting the win. Logan Robbins started, went 2 2/3 innings, allowed two earned runs, three hits, walked four and struck out two.
McNabb and White each had two doubles for EMCC, while Stewart Ball doubled. Stafford and Knight added singles.
Chance Witt was the starter and loser. He pitched 3 1/3 innings, allowed four runs (two earned), three hits, walked four and struck out five. Jacques Pucheu tossed 1 2/3 innings, allowed three runs, four hits, walked three and struck out one. Colton McKeithen pitched 1/3 of an inning and Knight pitched 2/3 of an inning, allowed one hit and struck out one.
The Bobcats will host Southwest in a 3 p.m. doubleheader on March 22 and will host Northwest in a 2 p.m. twinbill on March 25.
The Lions travel to Holmes on March 22.
