ELLISVILLE –
Calder Mikell threw his second straight one-hitter and had 10 strikeouts as Jones County blanked East Central 10-0 in five innings in game two of a doubleheader here Wednesday at Community Bank Park.
Erick Hoard had a grand slam home run and
Clint Sasser had two hits and two RBIs as the Bobcats completed the sweep over the Warriors.
In his previous start, Mikell, 4-0, had a one-hitter in a 1-0 win over Arkansas Baptist on March 5.
The only baserunners he allowed on Wednesday came in the fifth when he walked Ty Alderman and Matthew Mitchell followed with a single. But Mikell would strike out the next three batters.
Hoard's grand slam gave him seven RBIs on the day.
JCJC took a 2-0 lead in the first when Sasser led off with a single and
Chris Richardson reached on a two-base error.
Mason Irby followed with a two-run single.
In the third, Sasser reached on an error, Richardson walked and Irby was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Hoard then launched his grand slam over the right field wall to make it 6-0.
The Bobcats ended the game in the fifth.
John Alan Wall led off with a double and Hoard reached on a fielder's choice. Wall scored on an error on the play and
Jonathan Parker followed with a single.
Marcus Hardy then reached on a fielder's choice.
Dalton Skelton doubled pinch-runner
Josh Keel home and
Fred Franklin walked. Sasser's double scored Hardy and Skelton to end the game.
Sasser doubled and singled and had two RBIs, while Hoard homered and had four RBIs. Skelton and Wall each had doubles, while Irby singled and drove in two runs. Parker also singled.
Luke Yancey was the starter and loser. He pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowed six runs (five earned), three hits, walked one and struck out one. Hagan Brown and Christian Bellew also pitched for ECCC.
JCJC is now 19-1 overall and 2-0 in the league. East Central falls to 14-8 and 2-2.
The Bobcats will host East Mississippi in a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday. The games were originally ischeduled for Scooba, but had to be moved because of tornado damage to the EMCC baseball field several weeks ago. Both games will air on

The Warriors will host Coahoma on Saturday.
