Rangers end JCJC's baseball season in MACJC playoffs

SENATOBIA – The baseball season is over for the Jones County Junior College Bobcats.
Northwest Mississippi defeated the Bobcats 7-3 here Saturday afternoon in Game 2 of their MACJC best-of-3 playoff series. The Rangers swept the series after winning Game 1 on Friday, 10-8.
The Bobcats end the year with a 30-16 record.
Northwest is now 30-13 and will compete in the MACJC Tournament May 7-9 at Hinds Community College.
The Rangers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning.
Stephen Sexton had a two-run double to score James Clark and LeeMarcus Boyd. Kody Kimbrough then reached on a fielder's choice that scored Clay Casey.
The Bobcats got on the board in the fourth when John Alan Wall hit a solo home run to make it 3-1.
JCJC made it 3-2 in the fifth when Dylan Manichia doubled home Clint Sasser.
But the Rangers answered with four runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Casey walked with the bases loaded to score a run. Sexton then followed with a bases-clearing double to make it 7-2.
Carter Polles ended the scoring in the eighth when he hit a solo home run for the Bobcats.
Polles homered and singled, Manichia doubled and singled and Sasser singled twice for JCJC. Wall added a homer and Schankin singled.
Will Hazen, 6-2, was the starter and loser. He went 4 2/3 innings, allowed seven runs (three earned), six hits, walked three and struck out four. Tyler Schwaner pitched the final 3 1/3 innings, allowed no runs, two hits, walked one and struck out six.
Boyd doubled and singled twice for Northwest, while Sexton doubled, singled and had five RBIs. Chick, Dalton Dulin and Clark added singles.
Austin Towles, 4-1, was the winning pitcher. He went seven innings, allowed three runs, seven hits, walked one and struck out two. Grant Black pitched 1 1/3 innings, allowed no runs, walked three and struck out one. Koby Busby picked up his second save of the weekend and fifth of the year. He pitched 2/3 of an inning, giving up a hit and notching a strikeout.

Note: Northwest wins the MACJC opening round best-of-3 playoff series, 2-0. With the loss, JCJC ends the season with a record of 30-16. Northwest Mississippi advances to the MACJC Tournament next week at Hinds Community College.
