POPLARVILLE –
Will Hazen and
Daniel Goff combined on a three-hitter to lead 10
th-ranked Jones County Junior College to a 2-1 victory over Pearl River in game two of a doubleheader here Wednesday evening at Wildcat Stadium.
JCJC is now 24-10 overall and 11-7 in the MACJC. The Bobcats will host Holmes at 3 p.m. on Tuesday at Community Bank Park.
Pearl River falls to 9-25 overall and 3-15 in league play. The Wildcats travel to Mississippi Delta on Saturday.
Hazen, 4-1, went the first five innings and recorded the win.
He gave up one run (unearned), three hits and walked one. Goff notched his first save by not allowing a hit and walking one over the final two innings.
Pearl River took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Gage Teer reached on an error and Kreg Garner reached on a fielder's choice. Chandler Ray drew a walk and Garren Berry doubled Garner home.
The Bobcats tied it in the fourth when
Chris Morgan walked, was sacrificed to second by
Dylan Manichia and
Carter Polles followed with an RBI double.
JCJC took the lead in the sixth.
Chris Richardson and Morgan singled to start the inning. Irby then came through with a two-out, RBI single to right to score Richardson.
Polles doubled for the Bobcats with Morgan, Irby and Richardson adding singles.
Jacob Taylor went the distance and took the loss for PRCC. He gave up two runs, four hits, walked two and struck out seven.
Berry doubled, while Derrick Mount and Carter Hankins added singles for PRCC.
