DECATUR – East Central's Will Myers threw a no-hitter to lead the Warriors to a 2-0 victory over Jones County in game two here Monday night at the Clark-Gay Baseball Complex.
The Bobcats, 30-14 overall and 17-11 in the MACJC, finish the regular season in sixth place and will play at No. 3 Northwest Mississippi in an opening round best-of-3 playoff series this weekend in Senatobia at Jim Miles Field.
Game 1 will be at 4 p.m. on Friday with Game 2 at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Game 3, if necessary, will be at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. All games will be webcast on
www.nwccrangers.com.
Other playoff series this weekend include No. 8 Southwest Mississippi at No. 1 Hinds, No. 7 Mississippi Delta at No. 2 East Mississippi and No. 5 East Central at No. 4 Meridian.
The winners of these series will go to the site of the highest remaining seeded team for the MACJC State Tournament May 7-9.
Myers was the story in game two.
He did not allow a hit, walked four and struck out five.
Will Simon went the distance and pitched well for the Bobcats. He pitched six innings, allowed two runs (one earned), four hits, walked none and struck out three.
The Warriors got a run in the third when Hunter Thrower led off with a single and was sacrificed to second by Dylan Snypes. Thrower took third on a ground ball and scored on Ben Cooley's double.
East Central added an unearned run in the sixth when Cooley singled with one out. Dylan Little then reached on an error, which allowed Cooley to score.
Cooley doubled and singled for the Warriors, while Thrower and Cody Daigle added singles.
