Hazen deals another shutout as Bobcats wrap up playoff berth

ELLISVILLE – Will Hazen tossed his second straight shutout to lead Jones County Junior College to a 4-0 victory over Coahoma Community College in game two of a doubleheader here Saturday evening at Community Bank Park.
The Bobcats have now clinched a spot in an opening round MACJC best-of-three playoff series on May 1-2. The opponent, location and game times are to be determined.
JCJC, 29-13 overall and 16-10 in the MACJC, ends regular season play with a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Monday at East Central.
Coahoma, 6-36 and 4-22, ends the season on Monday at Northeast Mississippi.
Hazen, the current MACJC Pitcher of the Week, gave up four hits, struck out four and walked none as he improved to 6-1. He had shut out Mississippi Delta 1-0 in his previous start.
JCJC went ahead 2-0 in the second inning.
Mason Irby reached on an error and John Wall draw a walk. Tyler Schankin reached on a fielder's choice and Walt Prince drove in a run with a single to center. Schankin would later score on a balk.
The Bobcats took a 3-0 lead in the third.
Dylan Manichia drew a walk and stole second. Irby then reached on another error, which sent Manichia to third. He would then score on a wild pitch.
JCJC ended the scoring in the sixth.
Carter Polles singled and advanced to third on Irby's single. Josh Keel replaced Irby as a courtesy runner and stole second. Polles then scored from third on the front end of the double steal.
Prince singled twice for the Bobcats, while Polles, Irby, Peyton Attaway and Chris Richardson added singles.
Adam McPhail went six innings and took the loss for Coahoma. He allowed six hits, walked three, hit one and struck out four.
Caleb Lindsey, TJ Knowles, Adam Cook and Bailey Lott singled for the Tigers.
