ELLISVILLE – The Jones County Junior College Bobcats utilized a six-run, eighth-inning to put away Coahoma Community College 9-2 in game one of a doubleheader here Saturday afernoon at Community Bank Park.
Coahoma took a 1-0 lead in the second inning.
Adam Cook drew a walk, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Zach Morris singled.
The Bobcats got on the board with a pair of runs in the fourth.
Tyler Schankin led off with a walk, went to third on an error and scored on
Peyton Attaway's single.
Walt Prince reached on an error and
Chris Richardson walked to load the bases. With two outs,
Carter Polles came through with an RBI single to make it 2-1.
The Bobcats went ahead 3-1 in the seventh.
Mason Irby was hit by a pitch and replaced by courtesy runner
Josh Keel. After Keel stole second,
John Alan Wall was hit by a pitch. Schankin singled to load the bases and Prince's infield single scored Keel.
The Bobcats took a 9-1 lead in the eighth.
Clint Sasser led off with a walk and
Dylan Manichia was hit by a pitch. Polles reached on an error to load the bases and Irby followed with a two-run single. Polles would later score on a throwing error.
Wall drew a walk, Attaway drove in a run with a sacrifice fly and Prince followed with an RBI single. Prince later scored on a wild pitch.
The Tigers got a run in the ninth inning when Tyler Crouch led off with a double, was sacrificed to third by Caleb Lindsey and scored on Wesley Dew's groundout.
Tyler Schwaner, 3-3, posted the victory. He pitched six innings, allowed one run, six hits, walked five and struck out four.
Will Brand pitched two innings, allowed no runs, two hits and struck out two.
Taylor Karr pitched the final inning and gave up one run and one hit.
Polles had three singles for the Bobcats, while Manichia and Prince each had two singles. Attaway, Richardson, Schankin, Irby and Sasser added singles.
Michael Allen took the loss. He pitched 6 1/3 innings and gave up three runs (two earned), six hits, walked two and struck out three. Hunter Collins pitched 1 2/3 innings, allowed six runs (two earned), six hits, walked three and struck out one.
Hudson Ross had three singles for the Tigers, while Cook singled twice. Crouch had a double with Dew, Morris and Corey O'Brien adding singles.
JCJC is now 28-13 overall and 15-10 in MACJC play.
Coahoma falls to 6-35 and 4-21.
