Trojans defeat Bobcats in game one at Delta State

CLEVELAND – Peyton Callahan pitched a complete game and Michael Beloso hit a three-run home run to lead Mississippi Delta to a 7-4 win over Jones County in game one of a doubleheader here Thursday at Boo Ferriss Field on the Delta State University campus.
The Bobcats fall to 26-11 overall and 13-8 in the MACJC. The Trojans improve to 18-20 overall and 12-9 in the league.
JCJC quickly took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
Clint Sasser led off with a double, went to third on a groundout by Dylan Manichia and scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Carter Polles.
The Bobcats made it 2-0 in the fourth.
John Alan Wall reached on an error, Tyler Schankin singled and Peyton Attaway walked to load the bases. Chris Richardson then singled Wall home.
But the Trojans took the lead for good with three runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Michael Beloso walked and was replaced by courtesy runner Tays Hardy. DeMarcus Mahone drew a walk and Caleb Brown followed with an RBI single. After a balk, DaShawn Lindsay followed with a two-run double.
MDCC added a run in the sixth when Ayreon Davis and Mahone singled and Brown followed with a run-scoring single.
The Trojans extended the lead to 7-2 in the seventh.
Cla LaBeff walked, Jordan Lambert singled and Beloso followed with a three-run home run to left.
JCJC rallied for two runs in the ninth.
Attaway reached on a two-out error and Richardson singled. Landon Nettles was hit by a pitch to load the bases and Sasser followed with a two-run single. But Callahan retired Manichia on a fly ball to end the game.
Sasser doubled, singled twice and drove in two runs for JCJC. Richardson had three singles, while Manichia, Schankin and Nettles each had a single.
Tyler Schwaner, 2-2, started and took the loss. He pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowed three runs, three hits and walked six. Perry Turner pitched 2 2/3 innings, allowed four runs, seven hits, walked one and struck out one. Will Simon pitched 1 2/3 innings, allowed no runs, two hits and struck out two.
Callahan allowed four runs (one earned), nine hits, walked one and struck out three.
Brown had three singles for MDCC, while Lindsay doubled and singled and Matt Ray singled twice. Beloso had the home run with Lambert, Davis, Hardy and Mahone adding singles.
