ELLISVILLE – Jones County Junior College banged out 19 hits and
Christian Dale tossed a nine-inning complete game as JCJC defeated Holmes Community College 14-6 in game one of a doubleheader here Wednesday afternoon at Community Bank Park.
The Bobcats improved to 25-10 overall and 12-7 in MACJC play. Holmes falls to 17-16 and 8-11.
The game was tied at 4-4 going into the bottom of the sixth inning when the Bobcats sent 14 batters to the plate and scored eight runs to take command.
JCJC took a 2-0 lead in the third when
Tyler Schankin singled and
Peyton Attaway tripled into the right-centerfield gap. Attaway scored on the same play when the Bulldogs threw the ball away into their third base dugout.
The Bobcats made it 4-0 in the third.
John Alan Wall and Schankin singled. With two outs,
Chris Richardson singled Wall home and Schankin scored on an error.
Dale retired the first 12 batters he faced, but Holmes broke through in the fifth.
Chad McNeil led off with a double and Cody Sartin followed with an RBI double. After a groundout, Jackson Jones singled to score a run. Jarvis Griffith reached on an error and Jordan Arender's bunt scored Jones.
The Bulldogs tied it at 4-4 in the sixth. With two outs, McNeil reached on an error, stole second and scored on Sartin's double to left.
In the bottom of the sixth,
Daniel Goff was hit by a pitch to start the inning. He went to second on a wild pitch and took third on
Clint Sasser's bunt single. Manichia's sacrifice fly scored Goff to make it 5-4.
Carter Polles then singled a run home and
Mason Irby followed with a single. Wall then doubled a run home and Schankin followed with a two-run single to make it 9-4.
Attaway then launched a home run over the leftfield wall to give the Bobcats an 11-4 lead. Richardson was then hit by a pitch and Goff reached on an error. Richardson would later score on an error.
JCJC took a 13-4 lead in the seventh. Attaway singled, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on Richardson's single.
The Bulldogs scored a run in the eighth when McNeil was hit by a pitch and Sartin followed with an RBI double.
JCJC made it 14-5 in the eighth when Sasser doubled into the rightfield corner and later scored on an error.
Holmes scored a run in the ninth. Griffith singled, stole second and scored on Kevin Barber's single.
Dale, 3-1, allowed seven hits, walked none, hit one and struck out three.
Sasser had three singles and a double for the Bobcats. Attaway homered, tripled, singled and drove in three runs. Wall doubled and singled twice, while Schankin and Richardson had three singles each. Manichia, Polles and Irby added singles.
Sartin had three doubles and three RBIs for Holmes, while McNeil doubled. Barber, Jones and Griffith had singles.
Tony Taylor, the second of five Holmes' pitchers, took the loss. He went 2 1/3 innings, allowed four runs and three hits. Cole Feazell started and went the first three innings. Cody Shaw, Cody Greer and Rob Felton also pitched for the Bulldogs.
