ELLISVILLE – The 8
th-ranked Jones County Junior College Bobcats pounded out 15 hits and defeated Mississippi Gulf Coast 14-2 in seven innings in game one of a doubleheader here Tuesday afternoon at Community Bank Park.
Carter Polles was sharp on the mound as he gained his first win of the season.
Polles, 1-2, went 6 2/3 innings, allowed two runs, five hits and walked five.
Avery Owens got the final out of the game for JCJC.
The Bobcats jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning.
Chris Morgan led off with a double and scored on
Mason Irby's single.
John Alan Wall had an RBI double and
Tyler Schankin delivered a run-scoring single.
The Bobcats added a run in the second inning when
Chris Richardson reached on an error and later scored on another error.
JCJC made it 7-0 in the third.
With one out, Schankin doubled and scored on
Dylan Manichia's single. Richardson then singled and
Landon Nettles followed with a two-run double into the leftfield corner.
The Bobcats took an 11-0 lead in the fourth.
Irby led off with a double into the rightfield corner and Wall followed with an RBI single. Schankin reached on an error and Manichia followed with a walk. Richardson delivered an RBI single and Nettles followed with a single. Morgan's sacrifice fly to left scored Richardson.
The Bobcats went ahead 14-0 in the fifth.
Irby walked and Wall singled. Irby scored on an error and Schankin followed with another single. Manichia's sacrifice fly to center scored Wall. Richardson then singled and Nettles walked to load the bases. Morgan then walked to force home a run.
MGCCC got on the board in the seventh.
James Land and Brycen Burge walked to lead off the inning. Michael Shubert reached on a fielder's choice and Matt Trigg's fielder's choice scored Land. Rikki Pribanic then singled and Justin Nussbaum walked to load the bases. Patrick McMahon then walked to force home a run.
Wall and Schankin each doubled and singled twice for the Bobcats, while Richardson had three singles. Irby and Nettles both doubled and singled, while Morgan added a double and Manichia singled. Morgan, Wall, Manichia and Nettles each had two RBIs.
Winston Wilson was the starter and loser for the Bulldogs. He went 2 1/3 innings, allowed six runs, six hits and hit three. Dillon Drake, Tristan Bragg and Dylan Breaux also pitched for MGCCC.
Trigg singled twice for the Bulldogs, while Nussbaum, Land and Pribanic added singles.
The Bobcats improved to 21-8 overall and 8-5 in the MACJC, while MGCCC dropped to 10-13 and 5-6.
