ELLISVILLE – Jones County Junior College's
Daniel Goff improved to 5-0 and the Bobcats pounded out 15 hits en route to a 12-0 win over the Meridian Community College Eagles here Saturday afternoon in the season-opening MACJC conference game for both teams.
The 11th-ranked Bobcats improved to 14-3 overall, while Meridian fell to 8-6.
Goff was excellent again on the mound.
He went 6 1/3 innings, allowed two runs (both earned), eight hits, walked one and struck out two.
TJ Hollis got the final two outs and had a strikeout.
The Bobcats got a run in the first when
Chris Morgan led off with a double,
Clint Sasser singled and
Carter Polles' groundout scored Morgan. JCJC made it 2-0 in the second when
Dylan Manichia reached on an error, took second on a groundout by
John Alan Wall and scored on
Tyler Schankin's single.
The Bobcats added three runs in the third.
Sasser and Polles singled and
Mason Irby scored Sasser with another single. Wall's single scored courtesy runner
Josh Keel and
Peyton Attaway, who had reached on a fielder's choice, to make it 5-0.
JCJC put the game away with a seven-run, fifth inning.
Irby was hit by a pitch, Attaway doubled and Manichia hit a sacrifice fly. Wall's single scored Attaway and Schankin's single scored Wall to make it 8-0.
Chris Richardson followed with an RBI double. Morgan drew a walk and Sasser then had another RBI single. Polles would then deliver a two-run single.
Sasser and Wall had three singles each to lead the Bobcats, while Richardson doubled and singled. Polles and Schankin had two singles each. Morgan and Irby added singles.
Wall had three RBIs, while Polles, Irby and Schankin had two RBIs each.
Dalton Smith had three singles for the Eagles, while Daniel Hill singled twice. Dustin Smith doubled with Goose Yates and Matt Berler adding singles.
Ryan Lane went 4 2/3 innings and took the loss. He gave up nine runs (six earned), 11 hits and struck out three. Johnathan Porter went the final 1 1/3 innings, allowed three earned runs, four hits, walked one and struck out two.
It was a scheduled nine-inning game that was shortened by the run rule.
