Goff's pitching, hitting helps No. 8 Bobcats sweep NEMCC

BOONEVILLE – Daniel Goff went six innings on the mound and blasted a solo home run to help the 8th-ranked Jones County Junior College Bobcats to an 8-1 victory over Northeast Mississippi here Sunday afternoon at Harold T. White Field in game two of  a doubleheader.
The win gave the Bobcats a sweep of the twinbill.
The Bobcats, 20-8 overall and 7-5 in the MACJC, host Mississippi Gulf Coast in a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Tuesday. Both games will air on www.jcjc.tv.
Northeast Mississippi, 7-15 overall and 3-9 in conference play, travels to Holmes on Tuesday.
Goff was solid again on the mound as he improved to 7-0.
He went the first six innings, gave up one run, six hits, walked one and struck out seven.
JCJC took a 1-0 lead in the first when Chirs Morgan led off the game by being hit by a pitch. He went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Clint Sasser double.
Goff then led off the third inning with his first home of the year to give Jones a 2-0 lead.
The Bobcats took a 4-0 lead in the fourth. Tyler Schankin singled with one out and Dylan Manichia followed with his third home run of the season.
The Tigers got their only run in the fourth when Josh Peterson doubled and scored on Hunter Hudson's single.
JCJC increased the lead to 7-1 in the fifth.
Sasser led off with a walk and Carter Polles followed with a single. Mason Irby reached on an error, which allowed Sasser and Polles to score. Manichia drove in the third run with a single.
Irby led off the seventh inning with his second home run of the year to end the scoring.
Manichia homered, singled and had three RBIs for the Bobcats. Polles singled twice, while Goff and Irby homered. Sasser had a double with Morgan, John Alan Wall, Schankin and Chris Richardson getting singles.
Tyler Schwaner pitched the final inning, allowing one hit and notching a strikeout.
Jordan Montgomery singled three times for the Tigers, while Peterson doubled. Colby Williams, Jack Hurdle and Hudson added singles.
Landon Boyd went the first four innings and took the loss. He gave up seven runs (four earned), six hits, walked one and struck out two. Trace Lee went the final three innings, allowed one run, five hits, walked none and struck out three.
