BOONEVILLE –
Carter Polles hit a 3-run home run in the top of the 10
th inning to spark the 8th-ranked Jones County Junior College Bobcats to a 14-12 victory over Northeast Mississippi in game one of a doubleheader here Sunday afternoon at Harold T. White Field.
The game was knotted at 10-10 going into the 10
th.
Chris Morgan led off the inning with a single and
Clint Sasser reached on an error. Polles then blasted his third home run of the year over the leftfield wall.
Mason Irby then singled for his fifth hit of the game. After a walk to

Josh Keel ended up scoring on a passed ball.
Northeast got two runs in the bottom of the inning.
Colby Williams was hit by a pitch to start the inning, Trent Turner drew a walk and Scott Pala reached on an error to load the bases with nobody out. A double play groundout scored one run and Hunter Hudson singled to plate another. Ben Foster then singled, but was out at second to end the game.
Will Brand, 3-1, went the final 4 1/3 innings in relief of starter
Christian Dale and got the win. Brand allowed four runs (two earned), four hits, walked two and struck out five. Dale went 5 2/3 innings, allowed eight runs (seven earned), 10 hits, walked three and struck out five.
Irby singled four times, doubled and drove in two runs. Morgan homered, singled three times and had four RBIs. Polles homered, tripled and had three RBIs.
Chris Richardson and
John Alan Wall had two singles each, while Sasser,
Tyler Schankin and Goff each singled.
The Bobcats took a 1-0 lead in the first. Morgan led off with a single and later scored on Irby's single.
JCJC went up 5-0 in the second.
Richardson singled, Goff was hit by a pitch and Morgan followed with a 3-run homer. Polles then tripled and scored on Irby's single.
The Tigers scored a run in the bottom of the second. Josh Peterson and Jack Hurdle both singled and Eric Patterson reached on an error. Hayden Cummings reached on a fielder's choice to score Peterson.
Northeast cut the lead to 5-4 in the third when Turner singled, Peterson walked and Hurdle hit a 3-run home run.
The Tigers tied it in the fifth when Williams walked, Turner was hit by a pitch and Peterson's single scored the run.
The Bobcats then exploded for five runs in the fifth to take a 10-5 lead.
Irby doubled, Wall walked and Schankin followed with a run-scoring single. After an error,
Dylan Manichia's groundout scored a run to make it 7-5. Richardson then singled a run home.
Goff then singled and Morgan's single scored Richardson. Sasser's single drove in Morgan.
Northeast made it 10-8 in the sixth.
Cummings and Jordan Montgomery singled and an error allowed a run to score. A double by Peterson scored Montgomery and Hunter Hurdle's double scored Peterson.
The Tigers then tied it in the seventh.
Foster walked and Cummings followed with a double. An error allowed Foster to score and a fielder's choice drove in the 10
th run.
Hurdle homered, doubled and drove in four runs for Northeast. Peterson doubled and singled twice, while Cummings doubled and single. Hudson had two singles, while Montgomery, Turner, Foster and Patterson added singles.
Cody Bo Dillard, Tanner Whitaker, Drew Wray, Townsend Myers, Dustin Allen, Scott Pala and Colby Whitfield all pitched for Northeast.
JCJC improves to 19-8 overall, 6-5 in the MACJC. The Tigers drop to 7-14 and 3-8.
