ELLISVILLE – Eighth-rated Jones County Junior College broke a 4-4 sixth inning tie by scoring four runs on a wild pitch, a passed ball and two errors and beat Copiah-Lincoln 8-4 in game two of a doubleheader here Wednesday afternoon at Community Bank Park.
JCJC is now 18-8 overall and 5-5 in the MACJC. Co-Lin falls to 8-14 overall and 1-7 in the league.
The Bobcats travel to Northeast Mississippi for a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday. The Wolves visit Northwest Mississippi on Saturday.
The Bobcats jumped out to a 4-0 lead early.
In the bottom of the first,
Carter Polles drew a two-out walk and scored on
Mason Irby's triple to center.
Tyler Schankin then led off the second with a home run to make it 2-0.
Dylan Manichia then doubled and later scored on an error to make it 3-0.
In the fourth, John Wall doubled with two outs and scored on Schankin's single to make it 4-0.
Co-Lin got on the board in the fourth when Jeremy Moore walked and scored when Adrian Brown doubled off the wall in center.
The Wolfpack tied the game in the fifth.
Logan Smith led off with a single and Austin Resser followed with a two-run home run over the rightfield wall. Tanner Parvin then singled and was sacrificed to second. Moore then singled and Parvin would score on an error.
The Bobcats did all of their damage in the sixth after two were outs.
Daniel Goff singled to center and went to second on a wild pitch.
Chris Morgan was intentionally walked and
Clint Sasser was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
A passed ball then scored Goff and on the same play, the throw back to home plate by the catcher – Reed Taylor – got past the pitcher and Morgan scored. Sasser went to third on that play and then scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-4.
Polles then walked and stole second. Irby then singled to put runners on first and third.
Chris Richardson, the courtesy runner for Irby, stole second and the throw went into centerfield, allowing Polles to score.
Schankin homered and singled, while Irby tripled and singled for the Bobcats. Wall and Manichia each doubled with Polles and Goff adding singles.
Tyler Schwaner, 2-1, entered the game in the fifth inning and got the win. He pitched three innings, allowed no runs, one hit and struck out three. Starter
Will Hazen went four-plus innings, gave up four runs (three earned), four hits, walked one and struck out seven.
Resser homered, Brown doubled and Moore, Smith and Parvin each singled for Co-Lin.
Jackson Cole started, went 5 2/3 innings and took the loss. He gave up seven runs (four earned), seven hits, walked four and struck out four. Tanner Jones pitched 1/3 of an inning, allowed one run, one hit and walked one.
