SENATOBIA –
Chris Richardson's two-out, RBI single in the top of the eighth inning broke a 4-4 tie and propelled No. 8 Jones County Junior College to a 6-4 victory over 17
th-rated Northwest Mississippi here Saturday afternoon in game two of a doubleheader.
JCJC is now 16-8 overall, 3-5 in the MACJC. The Bobcats host Copiah-Lincoln in a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Wednesday with both games airing on
www.jcjc.tv.
The Rangers are 12-6 overall, 6-2 in the league. Northwest Mississippi hosts Jackson State College (Tennessee) in a 4 p.m. doubleheader on Monday.
JCJC led 4-1 after four innings, but Northwest Mississippi scored single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to tie the score at 4-4 and force extra innings.
John Alan Wall led off with a single to start the eighth and was sacrificed to second by
Tyler Schankin.
After a strikeout,
Chris Richardson singled to left score Wall. Richardson took second on the throw home and scored on
Daniel Goff's single.
Tyler Schwaner entered in relief of Goff in the eighth inning and gave up a couple of singles. But Lee Boyd was caught stealing second base to end the game.
The Bobcats took a 1-0 lead in the first when
Carter Polles singled with two outs and score on
Mason Irby's double.
The Rangers tied it at 1-1 in the second when Clay Casey singled, stole second and scored on Stephen Sexton's double.
The Bobcats regained the lead in the third.
Chris Morgan and
Clint Sasser walked and Polles followed with a two-run triple to make it 3-1.
The Bobcats went up 4-1 in the fourth when
Dylan Manichia singled, went to second on a groundout and scored on Morgan's double to right.
Northwest trimmed the lead to 4-2 in the fifth when Cody Cooper led off the inning with a home run.
The Rangers made it 4-3 in the sixth when Stephen Sexton hit a one-out, solo home run.
Northwest tied it in the seventh. Lee Boyd led off with a single, was sacrificed to second, stole third and scored on James Clark's groundout.
Goff, 6-0, went the first seven innings and got the win. He gave up four earned runs, 11 hits, walked one and struck out eight. Schwaner pitched the eighth inning, allowed two hits, struck out one and notched his first save of the season.
Polles tripled and singled twice for Jones. Morgan, Irby, Wall, Manichia, Richardson and Goff added singles.
Sexton homered, doubled and singled twice for Northwest. Boyd, Stuart Chick and Clay Casey each singled twice. Cooper homered, while Dalton Dulin, and Clark added singles.
Austin Towles was the starter for Northwest. He went 3 2/3 innings, allowed four earned runs, four hits, walked three and struck out two. Colin Liles, 2-2, went the final 4 1/3 innings and took the loss. He gave up two earned runs, five hits, walked one and struck out three.
