SUMMIT – Southwest Mississippi scored four runs in the first inning, led 6-0 after four inning and went on to defeat No. 11 Jones County Junior College 6-3 in game one of a doubleheader here Tuesday afternoon at Bears Field.
The Bears had three singles, two doubles and a walk in that four-run first inning.
The Bobcats got on the board in the sixth.
Clint Sasser reached on an error,
Mason Irby walked and
Tyler Schankin delivered an RBI, two-out single.
JCJC scored twice in the ninth.
With one out, Schankin reached on catcher's interference and
Dylan Manichia drew a walk. With two outs,
Daniel Goff walked to load the bases.
Chris Morgan then delivered a two-run single, but the Bears got a strikeout to end the game.
Schankin doubled and singled, while Goff added a double. Morgan,
Carter Polles and Irby had singles.
Polles started and took the loss. He pitched an inning-plus, allowed five earned runs, five hits, walked three and struck out one.
Will Brand pitched three innings and gave up an unearned run, two hits and walked one.
TJ Hollis pitched the final four innings, allowed no runs, one hit and struck out six.
Sam Richard started, went six innings and posted the win for the Bears. He gave up an unearned run, five hits, walked three and struck out three. Brady Badon pitched the final three innings, allowed two runs (one earned), one hit, walked two and struck out four.
