BATON ROUGE, Louisiana – The Baton Rouge Community College (Louisiana) Bears scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning en route to a 9-2 victory over 11th-rated Jones County Junior College here Thursday afternoon at Pete Goldsby Field.
JCJC, 11-3, will return home to Community Bank Park on Saturday.
The Bobcats will host Faulkner State Community College (Alabama) at 3:30 p.m. and BRCC at 6 p.m. Faulkner State will meet Baton Rouge in a 1:30 p.m. contest.
After falling behind 5-0, the Bobcats bounced back with two runs in the second inning, but BRCC added four more in the third.
Chase Hensley had two singles for JCJC, while
Dylan Manichia doubled and
Chris Morgan singled.
Hensley was the starter and loser. He went 2/3 of an inning and gave up five earned runs, six hits, walked one and struck out one.
Will Brand pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowed four earned runs, seven hits, walked none and struck out one.
Tyler Schwaner,
Perry Turner and
TJ Hollis pitched the final three innings, allowed no hits, no walks and struck out one.
Zachary Zimmer homered and singled for BRCC, while Layton Laird, Mark Traylor Jr. and Devin Bailey had two singles each. Logan Rogers had a double, while Kevin Vanasselberg, Nicholas Ber, Nicholas Morgan and Steven Bright had singles.
John Schaffer went the distance and posted the win. He allowed two runs (one earned), four hits, walked one and struck out one.
BRCC, 9-9-1, is now 9-9-1 on the year.
