No. 11 Bobcats hold off Wallace St.-Hanceville (Alabama), 7-6

MERIDIAN – Chase Hensley slugged his second home run of the day to help the 11th-ranked Jones County Junior College Bobcats defeat Wallace State-Hanceville (Alabama), 7-6, here Saturday afternoon at Scaggs Field in the Rush Invitational.
Hensley homered earlier in the day in JCJC's 10-1 victory over Jefferson College (Missouri).
The Bobcats are now 5-1 will host Lawson State Community College (Alabama) in a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Wednesday at Community Bank Park. JCJC will also host Mississippi Delta at 3 p.m. on Friday and the Bobcats have added a home twinbill vs. MDCC at 2 p.m. on Feb. 21.
The Bobcats trailed 3-0 heading into the fourth inning before they rallied for four runs.
Sasser led off the inning with a double and scored on a single by Dylan Manichia. Hensley doubled to right to put runners on second and third. John Alan Wall delivered an RBI single to make it 3-2. Irby's sacrifice fly tied the game at 3-3. Attaway drew a walk and Chris Richardson followed with a run-scoring single to put the Bobcats up 4-3.
Hensley then hit a two-out, solo home run in the fifth to make it 5-3.
JCJC upped the lead to 7-3 in the sixth.
Richardson led off with a single and Morgan drew a walk. Sasser then sacrificed the runners and with two outs, Hensley was intentionally walked to load the bases. Wall then drew a walk to score Richardson and Irby was hit by a pitch to score Morgan.
The Lions scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth and got a leadoff single in the seventh.
But Will Simon got out of the inning and picked up his second save of the year.
Will Brand, 1-0, came on in relief, pitched 2 2/3 innings and got the win. He allowed one run, four hits, walked two and struck out one. Christian Dale started, went 1 2/3 innings, gave up two earned runs, six hits and walked one. Simon pitched an inning, allowed one hit and got the save. Cody Mordecai pitched an inning, allowed three runs (two earned), two hits, walked one and struck out one. Tyler Schwaner pitched 2/3 of an inning and gave up one hit.
Hensley homered and doubled for JCJC, while Manichia and Richardson had two singles each. Sasser and Irby had doubles, while Wall had a single. Wall and Irby each drove in two runs.
Chris Blakey had three singles for the Lions, while Brady Beddingfield doubled and singled. Turner Vincent and Tanner Gardner each singled twice and Jon Sumner tripled. Lance Cleveland, Lane Wallace, Drake Tucker and Billy Reed added singles.
Bailey Chesser started, went 3 2/3 innings and took the loss. He allowed four runs, six hits, walked three and struck out three. Weston Bonner pitched an inning, allowed one run, two hits and walked one. Adam Berryhill pitched 2/3 of an inning and was charged with the loss. He gave up two runs, one hit and walked one. Jordan Simpson pitched 1 2/3 innings, allowed no hits, walked two and struck out one.
Wallace State, 5-2, is scheduled to play at Columbia State College (Tennessee) on Wednesday.
