SCOOBA – Starter
Will Hazen had seven strikeouts in six innings of work to lead the 11
th-rated Jones County Junior College Bobcats to a 4-2 victory over East Mississippi Community College here Tuesday afternoon in game one of a doubleheader at Gerald Poole Field.
Hazen, 1-0, allowed four hits and walked none in posting the win.
Tyler Schwaner pitched two innings, allowed one hit and struck out two.
Will Simon pitched 2/3 of an inning and walked two.
Will Brand got the final out to record a save.
JCJC took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when
Chris Morgan led off with a double, stole third and scored on
Chase Hensley's single.
It stayed that way until the seventh when the Bobcats added a run. Morgan and
Clint Sasser singled and Morgan later scored on an error.
The Bobcats made it 3-0 in the eighth when
Mason Irby singled and
Peyton Attaway delivered an RBI double.
Morgan led off the ninth with a double, stole third and scored on
Dylan Manichia's sacrifice fly.
The Lions scored twice in the bottom of the ninth before Brand got a strikeout to end the game.
Morgan doubled twice, singled and scored three runs to pace the Bobcat offense. Attaway doubled and singled, while Sasser, Hensley, Irby and
Tyler Schankin had singles.
Taylor Stafford doubled and singled for EMCC, while JoVaughn McNabb and Dylan Vuncannon each singled twice.
Zach Irwin was the starter and loser.
He went seven innings, allowed two runs (one earned), five hits, walked five and struck out seven. Jake Bracewell pitched two innings, allowed two runs, four hits and struck out one.
