CHARLOTTE, NC – Jones College is headed back to the NJCAA Division II Softball World Series for a fourth consecutive season.
Head coach
Tori Dew's Bobcats received an at-large bid to the national tournament on Tuesday afternoon as announced on the NJCAA Network.
Jones (46-10), seeded No. 7, will play 10th-seeded State College of Florida (36-20) at 12:30 p.m. on May 20 at Tyger River Park in Spartanburg, S.C.
It's the first-ever meeting between the schools.
The Bobcats could play No. 2 seed Murray State (Okla.) if they win the opener. Murray State is currently 63-1 on the year.
This will be the 14th trip to the NJCAA World Series for Jones and third in three years for Dew as head coach, who is 137-35 (.797).
Region 23 and Gulf District A champion Copiah-Lincoln, along with Gulf B champion Pearl River, received automatic invites to the tournament. Northwest also received an at-large berth, giving Region 23 four teams in the 20-team field.
Jones, which won a school-record 45 regular season games, has been led by several players.
Offensively, outfielder
Mabry Eason is batting .375 with 23 home runs and 63 RBIs. First baseman
Mary Kimble Price is hitting .411 with 17 home runs and 64 RBIs. Outfielder
Claire Andersen is batting .396 with 48 stolen bases.
Pitcher
Madison Sawyer is 19-2 with a 2.58 ERA. She has pitched 133 innings with 96 hits allowed and 121 strikeouts.
Jones finished as runner-up in last year's NJCAA World Series to in-state foe Co-Lin.
Tickets for this year's event are $15 per day and tournament passes are $50. Children 12 & under will be admitted for FREE.
All games will be streamed live and archived on the NJCAA Network. A day pass costs $12, a tournament pass is available for $35 and an all-access pass costs $100.
