Four Bobcats named NFCA All-Americans

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Four Jones College Bobcats have been named as National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Americans.

Pitcher Madison Sawyer and outfielder Mabry Eason made the First Team and first baseman Mary Kimble Price and outfielder Claire Andersen made the Second Team.

It marks 11 straight seasons for a Bobcat to be named an NFCA All-American and gives Jones 34 all-time selections.

Saywer, a freshman from Saraland, Ala., went 20-3 with two saves and a 2.61 ERA in 145 innings pitched. She had 134 strikeouts and teams had a .201 batting average against her. She was named NFCAA All-South Region, MACCC Pitcher of the Year and All-MACCC First Team.

Eason, a freshman from Oxford, batted .358 with 14 doubles, a team-leading 24 home runs and 65 RBIs. Eason was named NFCA All-South Region and All-MACCC First Team.

Price, a freshman from Kosciusko, batted .399 and led the team with 69 RBIs and 77 base hits. She had 18 home runs and 13 doubles and had a .977 fielding percentage. She was named NFCA All-South Region and was named All-MACCC First Team.

Andersen, a Wayne Academy sophomore, led the team with a .410 batting average and was 50-of-56 in stolen bases. The 50 bags led the MACCC and was seventh nationally. Andersen was NFCA All-South Region and was chosen All-MACCC Second Team.

The Bobcats ended the season with a 50-12 record and finished fourth in the NJCAA Division II World Series.

Half of the 20 teams who advanced to the NJCAA Division II World Series had players earn All-America status, including third-place finisher Murray State — the No. 1-ranked team early in the season — which earned a division-best six All-America selections, including all six on the first team.

The South had the most selections of the three NJCAA Division II regions with 20, followed by the Midwest with 13 and the East with three. There were 25 sophomores and 11 freshmen chosen.

NFCA All-Region and All-America athletes must be nominated by their NFCA-member head coach, are voted for by the coaches in their region, and ultimately selected by elected NJCAA Division II All-America committee members to receive this prestigious accolade.
