No. 4 Bobcats walk-off Eagles in nightcap to earn split

ELLISVILLE Brayson Graham tossed a shutout and Kelan Guidry hit a two-out, solo home run in the bottom of the fifth as No. 4 Jones College walked off Hinds 10-0 in game two.
 
The Eagles defeated the Bobcats 4-1 in game one here Wednesday afternoon at Community Bank Park.
 
Jones is now 34-13 overall, 17-7 in the MACCC. The Bobcats are tied for second place with Northwest in the conference standings. Pearl River has clinched first place at 23-3 and East Central is fourth at 16-8. The top two teams will host a Region 23 postseason tournament May 5-8.
 
The Bobcats visit Itawamba for a 2 p.m. doubleheader on April 25 and will end regular season play with a 2 p.m. April 29 doubleheader at home vs. Northwest.
 
Hinds is now 27-20 overall, 13-13 in the conference.

Jacob Galloway tossed a complete-game three-hitter to pace the Eagles in game one.
 
Warren Hutchinson walked to start the bottom of the first inning, went to second on a ground out and scored on a single by Sanders Ainsworth for the Bobcats only run.
 
In the top of the fifth, Lane Almond reached on an error to start the inning for the Eagles. With two outs, Rolen Fanning singled and Cade Fairley followed with a three-run home run over the right field wall to make it 3-1. All three runs were unearned.
 
Hinds added a run in the seventh when Ryder Molea led off with a double and scored on a two-out single by Brody Breithaupt.
 
Colton Smith (8-3) went the distance for the Bobcats. He allowed four runs (one earned), seven hits, one walk and struck out seven.
 
Ainsworth, Brayden Quick and Dylan Champagne each singled for Jones.
 
Galloway (5-5) gave up one run, three hits, walked three and struck out five.
 
Fairley homered and singled and Molea and Ethan Keen doubled for Hinds.

The first three batters of the game reached for the Eagles on a single, a walk and a single.
 
Graham (5-2) then struck out the side to end the inning and cruised from that point. He gave up no runs, six hits, walked three and struck out seven.
 
The Bobcats took a 2-0 lead in the second when Champagne was hit by a pitch and Gage Reeves walked. Talan Theriot sacrificed and the ball was thrown away at first, allowing Champagne to score. Eli Wheat singled to drive in Reeves.
 
Jones added three in the third when Chase Russell doubled and scored on a double by Ainsworth. Champagne and Hutchinson had RBI singles in the inning to make it 5-0.
 
The Bobcats went ahead 9-0 in the fourth. Guidry and Russell singled and Ainsworth followed with an RBI single. Champagne's fielder's choice drove in a run and Reeves doubled in two runs with a drive to left-center.
 
After the first two batters were retired in the fifth, Guidry launched his third home run of the year off the top of the scoreboard in left to end it.
 
Russell went 3-for-3 with a double and two singles. Guidry homered and singled and Ainsworth doubled and singled. Reeves doubled with Champagne, Hutchinson and Wheat adding singles.
 
Ainsworth, Champagne and Reeves each had two RBIs.
 
Almond and Sam Sheffield each doubled for Hinds.
 
Brady Griffin, the first of four Hinds' pitchers, went 2.1 innings and got the loss. He allowed five runs (three earned), five hits, walked one and struck out two.
