JACKSON – Jones College's
Madison Sawyer had a successful start to her collegiate career.
Sawyer, a freshman right-hander from Saraland, Ala., went 2-0 in the circle during the first regular season week of the season.
Saywer, who prepped at Satsuma High School, pitched the No. 4 Bobcats to a 5-1 win over No. 3 St. Johns River (Fla.). She went 7.0 innings, allowed one run, one hit, walked two and struck out 11. She pitched 4.0 innings in a 10-0, 5-inning win over Bishop St. (Ala.) allowing one hit and struck out six.
For the week, Sawyer pitched 11 innings, struck out 17, walked three, allowed one earned run and had a 0.64 ERA.
Jones, 7-1, heads to Gulf Shores, Alabama, for the Coastal Alabama Coyote Classic Feb. 13-14.
