Jones piles up 26 runs on 22 hits in sweep at Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE, La. – Runs were aplenty for the Bobcats Friday afternoon at Pete Goldsby Field.

Jones pounded out 22 hits and scored 26 runs in a sweep of Baton Rouge to extend its winning streak to 11 games over the Bears.

The teams will close out a home-and-home at Community Bank Park on Monday, Feb. 24 at 2 p.m. The doubleheader was originally scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday.

Jones 6, Baton Rouge 2

TJ Dunsford tossed six, two-hit innings with seven punchouts and added two hits at the plate to lead Jones to a win in the opener.

Jackson Martin and BRCC struck first in the first on an RBI-double.

A double steal tied the game for Jones at 1-1 in the third when Talan Theriot broke for second and Chesley Rhodes stole home after a rundown.

Cole Manuel hit a two-run homer in the fourth and Theriot added an RBI-double to put the Bobcats ahead 4-1 in the fourth.

Chase Russell provided RBI-singles in the fifth and seventh to extend the lead to 6-1.

Caden Freeman came on in relief of Dunsford with one on and no outs in the seventh and allowed an Aidan Machado RBI-double before eventually getting a strikeout and game-ending double play.

Jones 20, Baton Rouge 9

Nine Bobcats combined for 14 hits, including Evan Rogers who was 3-for-3 with a homer and four RBIs, as Jones scored a season-high 20 runs in game two.

Jones quickly scored six in the top of the first and the rout was on.

Rogers' homer in the third made it 18-3.

The Bears would score six runs over their final two at-bats to make it more respectable.

Preston Scott was 2-for-4 with four RBIs, Manuel 2-for-2 with three RBIs and Brody Martin doubled for his first collegiate hit.

Drew Lambert improved to 2-0 on the hill in three innings, allowing three runs on just one hit with four walks.

The two teams combined for 22 free passes. Jones' pitching staff walked nine. BRCC's walked six and hit seven.
