Jones splits round robin in Decatur

Bobcats fall 13-5 to East Central, top Northeast 10-9

DECATUR – Jones split a pair of games during a round robin at East Central Tuesday afternoon.

The Bobcats dropped a 13-5 decision to the host and second-ranked Warriors and rebounded with a 10-9 win over Northeast.

Jones moved to 6-2 on the year. They'll travel to Baton Rouge Friday for a pair and then host the Bears on Sunday.

East Central 13, Jones 5

Jones rallied to tie the game at 3-3 in the sixth but EC would score 10 runs over its final three at-bats to win big.

Talan Theriot's RBI-double got the Cats on the board and Brice Ainsworth followed with a two-run single to tie it.

EC immediately retook the lead on Brady Mcabee's RBI-double and added three more to increase the lead to 7-3.

Jayden Adcox's two-run homer made it 9-3 after six.

After cutting it to 9-5, the Warriors got a solo home run, two-run single and wild pitch to stretch the final score to 13-5.

Braden Smith continued his hot hitting, going 2-for-3. Theriot was also 2-for-3.

Chase Russell got a no-decision in 4.2 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits. Colton Smith was hit with the loss after surrendering six runs in 1.1.

Marbin Lezcano got the win for EC in 2.0 relief innings.

Jones 10, Northeast 9

Dominick Regira's RBI-single broke an 8-8 tie in the sixth and Jones survived another seventh-inning collapse to split the day.

Jones trailed 3-0 early but rallied back with the next five runs to take the lead.

B. Smith's RBI-single in the fourth broke a 5-5 tie and Theriot's RBI-single and a wild pitch made it 8-5 Bobcats.

The Tigers tied it at 8-8 after an error and Parker Hall two-run homer.

Regira broke the tie in the sixth and TJ Dunsford's fielder's choice made it 10-8 with an insurance run they would definitely need.

Caden Freeman came on in the seventh to try and close it out in relief of Micah Daniell.

Ben Sandlin reached on a one-out single and would score on an infield throwing error before a foul out to first base ended it.

Daniell improved to 3-0 in 3.1 relief innings and three runs allowed. Freeman got his second save in as many appearances.

Evan Rogers, Theriot and Smith had multiple hits.
