Box Score ELLISVILLE – The Jones College women's tennis team had quite a performance in last week's ITA Juco Southern Fall Regional Championships here at the Bobcat Tennis Complex.
 
Helen Hernandez (Venezuela) and Molly Bennett (Madison Central) defeated teammates Guadalupe Tocci (Argentina) and Daniela Tovar (Venezeula), 6-2, 6-4, in the flight A doubles championship. That qualifies Hernandez and Bennett for the ITA Cup in Rome, Georgia, Oct. 14-16.
 
Hernandez and Bennett beat the No. 1 seed in three sets. Ansley Tomkins (Northwest Rankin) and Annabelle Simmons (Lamar School) were flight B finalists and lost to a Hinds international squad.
 
In singles in the A and B flights, Jones had three of the four semifinalists.
 
Hernandez won the flight A championship 6-1, 6-3, qualifying her for the ITA Cup. In the semifinals, Hernandez beat Bennett, 6-1, 6-1 and Tocci lost in three sets. Bennett defeated the No. 1 seed in three sets.
 
Annalyn Housley (Nettleton) beat an international player from Estonia in the flight B championship. Maggie Savell (Park Place Christian Academy) lost in three sets in the semifinals to the same international player.
 
Simmons won the flight B consolation championship and only dropped four games in three matches in the backdraw.
