Jones captures sixth straight region championship, caps unbeaten season

ELLISVILLE – Maria Martinez clinched a 5-0 victory for Jones College at No. 3 singles, winning 6-0, 6-1 over Copiah-Lincoln's Georgina Labusch, as the Bobcats captured their sixth consecutive NJCAA Region 23 Championship Saturday afternoon.

Jones gets the automatic bid to Sumter, S.C., for the national tournament May 2-6. It will be their 22nd all-time appearance. 

The Bobcats won all three doubles points.

Maria Martinez/Camila Piquín rolled to an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles and Jones won 8-5 at both No.'s 1 and 3.

Theresa Emelio steamrolled Ady Locke 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles to grab Jones' fourth point and Martinez clinched the title minutes later. 

Jones capped a third straight unbeaten season at 16-0. They have won 58 straight matches overall dating back to April 2023.
