Booth's five-hit, two-home run day helps Bobcats split with Baton Rouge

ELLISVILLE – Runs were difficult to come by in Saturday's doubleheader here at Community Bank Park between Jones College and Baton Rouge Community College (Louisiana).

Drew Druckenmiller (Mobile, Alabama) improved to 4-0 on the mound and DeeJay Booth (Oak Grove) blasted a two-run home run to help the Bobcats to a 4-2 win in game one. In game two, the Bobcats committed three errors and dropped a 4-3 decision to BRCC. That snapped Jones' seven-game winning streak.

Jones is now 11-3 and will pay a return visit to Baton Rouge with a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Wednesday at Pete Goldsby Field. The Bobcats will open MACCC play March 12 at Itawamba.

The Bears are now 13-14.

Game 1 – Jones 4, Baton Rouge 2
Jones trailed 2-0 entering the bottom of the sixth inning when they got the bats going.

Billy Garrity (Sumrall) led off with a single to left and Booth followed with his first home run of the year, a two-run shot over the right field wall. After Colson Harris (West Jones) walked, Tyler Ducksworth (South Jones) reached on a fielder's choice. Jakob Wax (Prairieville, Louisiana) then hit a double to left, sending Ducksworth to third with one out.

Drew Williamson (Vancleave) then hit a long foul ball outside the right field line. Nick Carriere made the catch, but Ducksworth was able to tag and score on the sacrifice fly to give the Bobcats a 3-2 lead.

Harris led off the bottom of the eighth with a single and was replaced by pinch runner Peyton Bell (Mobile, Alabama). Bell advanced on an error and would eventually score on a sacrifice fly by Wax.

Druckenmiller entered with two outs in the sixth and went the final 3.1 innings to record the victory. He struck out six, allowed one hit and walked two. Starter Kade Keeton (Brandon) went 5.0 innings, giving up an unearned run, four hits, two walks and five strikeouts. Sam Mansell (Northeast Jones) tossed .2 innings, allowing one run on no hits.

Booth homered, Harris singled twice, Wax doubled and Murray Hutchinson (Madison Central), Garrity and Chase Honeycutt (DeSoto Central) each singled.

BRCC starter Teddy Webb went 7.0 innings, allowed three runs, six hits, struck out seven, walked three and got the loss. Case Roark pitched an inning and gave up a hit.

Blaise Foote singled twice, Lane Hutchinson doubled and Trey Webb, Tristan Frederick and Britt Jordan added singles.

Game 2 – Baton Rouge 4, Jones 3
The Bobcats took a 1-0 lead in the second when Wax reached on a double and Garrett Clendenning (Biloxi) singled him home.

With the game tied 1-1 and two outs in the bottom of the third, Booth blasted his second home run of the day over the right field wall to put Jones ahead 2-1.

In the top of the fourth, Foote and Alex Guilbeau led off with walks. Frederick followed with a sacrifice bunt, but the ball was thrown away past first base into the right field corner, along both runners to score and give the Bears a 3-2 lead.

Down 4-2 going into the bottom of the sixth, Jones loaded the bases with one out. But a 1-2-3 double play ground ball got the Bears out of the inning.

In the seventh, Keeton led off with a walk. After a fly out, Keeton advanced two bases on a wild pitch. Josh Cary (Petal) drew a walk to put runners at first and third. After a strikeout, Booth singled to left to score Keeton and send Cary all the way to third with two outs. But a pop up to short ended the game.

Starter Colby Tubre (D'Iberville) went 4.2 innings and got the loss, falling to 2-1. He allowed three runs (one earned), four hits, walked three and struck out three. Luke Lycette (Northwest Rankin) went the final 2. 1 innings. He gave up an unearned run, one hit and hit a batter.

Booth homered and singled twice to pace the Bobcat offense. Harris and Wax each doubled with Cary and Clendenning adding singles.
