MERIDIAN – In both games until the final few innings, Jones was swept Wednesday night at No. 7 Meridian by 8-7 and 9-3 finals.
A wild pitch and an error in the bottom of the eighth helped lift the Eagles to an 8-7 win in the opener before a six-run fifth inning in the nightcap helped MCC break open what was a 3-2 game and earn the sweep.
Jones dropped to 2-6 in its last eight games to fall to 15-9, 2-6 in the league. Meridian improved to 18-6 and 6-2 in the MACCC.

Tied after seven,
DeeJay Booth's RBI-groundout gave Jones a short-lived 7-6 lead in the eighth before a two-run bottom of the eighth lifted Meridian to victory.
Back-to-back RBI-doubles by
Billy Garrity and
Tyler Ducksworth knotted the game at 2-2 after three.
Meridian took its largest lead, 5-3, with a three-run fourth.
Booth's two-run single tied the game again at 5-5 in the sixth, scoring
Murray Hutchinson and
Chase Honeycutt after a hit-by-pitch and single.
The teams exchanged runs in the seventh on
Jakob Wax's second home run of the season and Brock Butler's RBI-single.
Deadlocked at 6-6 into the eighth, the Bobcats had runners at first and second with no outs but only managed to score one run on Booth's groundout.
Pinch hitter Chandler Cline led off Meridian's half of the eighth on an error to put the tying run on. The Eagles then followed with a hit-by-pitch, fly out and intentional walk before a fluke play allowed Meridian to plate two.
Brock Butler struck out swinging for the second out, but on his strikeout a wild pitch and error at the plate allowed both runs (unearned) to score to give Meridian an 8-7 lead.
Jones went 1-2-3 in the ninth.
Meridian 9, Jones 3
Meridian broke open what was a 3-2 ballgame in the fourth with six runs in the fifth to run away with a 9-3 victory in game two.
Tied at two apiece after three, Jalen Cowan's solo shot put Meridian up 3-2 after four.
The Eagles would plate six runs on seven hits and three Bobcat errors to blow it open in the fifth. It all happened in the blink of an eye.
A leadoff walk, error and single put two on with no outs. Ke'Shun Collier then doubled down the right field line to score one before two errors plated all three runs to make it 6-2. Bo Gatlin homered and Cowan and Carson Chapman both singled to extend the lead to 9-2.
