Keeton tosses shutout, No. 16 Bobcats earn split at Mississippi Delta

MOORHEAD Kade Keeton (Brandon) threw a five-inning, complete-game shutout as No. 16 Jones College defeated Mississippi Delta 11-0 in game one here Sunday afternoon at The Jimmy Bellipanni Baseball Complex.
 
The Trojans came back to win game two, 10-5, aided by 15 free passes.
 
Jones, 15-7 overall and 2-4 in the MACCC, travels to Meridian for a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Wednesday and hosts Northeast Mississippi in a 2 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
 
MDCC, 8-9 overall and 3-3 in the conference, goes to Itawamba on Wednesday.
 
Jones 11, Mississippi Delta 0 – 5 innings
 
Keeton was in command all the way, limiting the Trojans to just two hits, walking just two and recording two strikeouts. He is now 3-0 on the year.
 
The Bobcats took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Tyler Ducksworth (South Jones) drew a bases loaded walk. A passed ball brought the second run of the inning home.
 
A Jakob Wax (Prairieville, Louisiana) double drove in two runs in the third and another passed ball made it 5-0. Chase Honeycutt's (DeSoto Central) sacrifice fly made it 6-0.
 
In the fourth, DeeJay Booth (Oak Grove) drove in a run with a single and Wax delivered another two-run double to make it 9-0. 
 
The Bobcats finished the scoring in the fifth when Murray Hutchinson (Madison Central) scored on an error and Booth's sacrifice fly scored Josh Cary (Petal).
 
Wax had two doubles and four RBIs with Cary, Booth and Ducksworth adding singles. Booth had two RBIs.
 
Channing Lackey and Chad Dudenhefer singled for MDCC.
 
Starter Luke Smith went 3.2 innings and was tagged with the loss, giving up nine runs (seven earned), five hits and six walks. Baylor Leonard pitched the final 1.1 innings.
 
Mississippi Delta 10, Jones 5
 
The Bobcats led 4-0 after two innings, but could not hold the lead.
 
MDCC cut the lead to 4-3 in the third. Trailing 5-3 going into the bottom of the fifth, the Trojans scored four runs to take a 7-3 lead and added three more in the sixth.
 
Billy Garrity's (Sumrall) sacrifice fly made it 1-0 in the first and Ducksworth's two-run double to right made it 3-0. Hutchinson's ground out in the second made it 4-0. Ducksworth's RBI single in the fifth drove in JC's final run.
 
Ducksworth was 3-for-3 with a double, two singles and three RBIs. Colson Harris (West Jones) added two singles with Cary getting a double and Booth adding a single
 
Starter Colby Tubre (D'Iberville) went 3.0 innings, allowed three runs, two hits and walked four. Luke Lycette (Northwest Rankin) tossed 1.2 innings and got the loss to fall to 1-2 on the year. He gave up four runs, two hits, walked two and struck out two. Drew Druckenmiller (Mobile, Alabama), Cade Mattison (Lamar Christian) and Peyton Bell (Mobile, Alabama) also pitched. The Bobcats issued 11 walks in the game.
 
Dre Moore doubled and singled for MDCC and Dudenhefer singled twice and drove in two runs. Davione Hull also had two RBIs.
 
Chris Smith went all 7.0 innings and got the win to improve to 3-0. He allowed five runs (three earned), seven hits, walked one and struck out five.
