Bobcat offense held in check in doubleheader setback to Pearl River

ELLISVILLE – No. 16 Jones College had trouble scoring runs and dropped two games to No. 3 Pearl River here Wednesday evening at Community Bank Park.
 
The Wildcats notched an 8-0 shutout in eight innings in game one and followed that up with a 2-1 decision in game two.
 
The Bobcats fall to 14-6 overall and 1-3 in the MACCC. Pearl River is now 14-4 overall and 3-1 in the conference.
 
Jones visits Mississippi Delta for a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday. Pearl River will play No. 1 LSU Eunice at 3 p.m. Friday in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and will follow that up with a 6 p.m. contest vs. Baton Rouge Community College.

The Bobcats managed only five hits in the opener.
 
Starter Dakota Lee went 7.0 innings, allowed no runs, four hits, walked none and struck out four as he improved to 2-0. Bobby Magee tossed the final inning and gave up one hit and struck out one.
 
PRCC took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Logan Walters homered over the left-center field wall. 
 
Leading 3-0 going into the seventh, the Wildcats got an RBI single from Matt Mercer, followed by a two-run double from D.K. Donaldson and an RBI single from Preston Soper to make it 7-0.
 
Tate Parker's home run in the eighth inning closed the scoring.
 
Tyler Ducksworth (South Jones) had two singles for Jones. Colson Harris (West Jones) added a double with DeeJay Booth (Oak Grove) and Kade Keeton (Brandon) adding singles.
 
Starter Dalton Tanner (Northeast Jones) went 4.2 innings and took the loss to fall to 1-2. He allowed three runs (two earned), six hits, two walks and four strikeouts. Cade Mattison (Lamar Christian) went 1.2 innings, giving up four runs, five hits and recording five strikeouts. Peyton Bell (Mobile, Alabama) tossed 1.2 innings and allowed one run and three hits.
 
Walters and Parker each homered and singled with Donaldson getting a double and a single. Gabe Broadus had two singles with Alex Perry and Blake Hooks getting doubles. Mercer, Ian Montz, Soper and Taylor Woodcock each had singles.

Pearl River took a 1-0 lead on a Walters' single that scored Perry in the second. Parker's sacrifice fly to right drove in Montz to make it 2-0 in the fifth.
 
The Bobcats avoided the shutout when Booth homered to center with one out in the bottom of the seventh.
 
Andrew Nix (Stringer) started for Jones and got the loss, dropping to 1-1. He went 4.1 innings, giving up two runs, four hits, two walks and picking up five strikeouts. Drew Druckenmiller (Mobile, Alabama) went the final 2.2 innings, allowing no runs, one hit and one walk.
 
Pearl River's Leif Moore got the complete game shutout victory, improving to 2-0. He went 7.0 innings, giving up just three hits, one walk and notched five strikeouts.
 
Other than Booth's home run, Jones got singles from Murray Hutchinson (Madison Central) and Ducksworth.
 
Parker, Mercer, Soper, Walters and Montz each singled for the Wildcats.
