Baseball Bobcats sweep Pelicans

ELLISVILLE – Jones College notched a pair of victories over Nunez Community College (Louisiana) here Wednesday afternoon at Community Bank Park.
 
Billy Garrity (Sumrall) hit his third home run of the year in game one as Jones won, 7-3. In game two, three Bobcat pitchers combined on a one-hitter as the Bobcats posted a 10-0 win in six innings.
 
Jones, 6-2, will host Bevill State (Alabama) in a 2 p.m. doubleheader on March 2. Nunez, 11-5, visits Coastal Alabama-North on Feb. 26.
 
Game 1 – Jones 7, Nunez 3
After spotting the Pelicans a run in the top of the first inning, Jones responded with four runs in the bottom half of the frame.
 
Garrity had an RBI double, followed by a two-run single by Tyler Ducksworth (South Jones). A Colson Harris (West Jones) single drove in Jakob Wax (Prairieville, Louisiana) to make it 4-1.
 
Nunez got two runs in the second to trim the lead to 4-3.
 
It stayed that way until the bottom of the fifth when Garrity hit a two-out home run over the right field wall to make it 5-3.
 
Jones added two more runs in the sixth when McCrae Houston (Brandon) doubled in Harris and Josh Cary (Petal) singled Houston home.
 
Kade Keeton (Brandon) went 4.0 innings and got the win, improving to 2-0. He allowed three runs, seven hits, walked none and struck out one. Drew Druckenmiller (Mobile, Alabama) earned his first save by pitching the final 3.0 innings. He gave up no runs, two hits, walked one and struck out five.
 
Houston doubled and singled with Garrity and Ducksworth each getting two hits and two RBIs. Cary, Harris and DeeJay Booth (Oak Grove) added singles.
 
Lane DiBartolo went 5.0 innings, gave up five runs (four earned), eight hits, walked two, struck out one and got the loss. Payton Cooper tossed an inning and allowed two runs.
 
Landon Leblanc and Landon Manson each doubled and singled for the Pelicans with Kyle Landry getting two singles. Dylan Jimenez doubled and Alex Roux singled.
 
Game 2 – Jones 10, Nunez 0 (6 inn)
Colby Tubre (D'Iberville) gave up a leadoff double in the top of the first inning and that was the only hit allowed by Jones.
 
Tubre upped his record to 2-0, allowed one hit, four walks and notching five strikeouts in 4.0 innings of work. Sam Mansell (Northeast Jones) pitched an inning and struck out the side. Andrew Nix (Stringer) pitched the final inning, struck out two and walked one.
 
Leading 1-0 entering the bottom of the third inning, Jones sent 13 batters to the plate and scored seven runs. The Bobcats added two more runs in the sixth to end the game.
 
Wax and Murray Hutchinson (Madison Central) each singled twice for the Bobcats. Cary, Booth and Garrett Clendenning (Biloxi) each had singles.
 
Starter Willy Flynn went 3.2 innings and got the loss. He gave up eight runs (seven runs), six hits and walked eight. Jonathan Glover pitched to one batter and Colby Smith pitched 1.1 innings.
