Cole's five-hit afternoon helps spark Bobcat sweep at Hinds

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 RAYMOND – Tyesha Cole's two home runs sparked 14 unanswered runs in the opener and Nia Luckett and Sterling James held Hinds to three runs in the nightcap as No. 8 Jones swept a pair from the Lady Eagles by 15-5 and 6-3 finals at Rene T. Warren Field.

Jones extended its winning streak to five games in improving to 27-7 overall and 16-6 in league play. Hinds fell to 11-15 and 10-2.

The Bobcats will play their final six regular season games at The Bank, beginning with a Sunday doubleheader against East Mississippi at 2 p.m.

Game 1 – Jones 15, Hinds 5 (6 inn.)

Trailing 4-0 after the first and 5-1 after two, a seven-run fourth inning put the Bobcats on top for good as they rallied for 14 unanswered in a run-rule win.

Kristian Edwards' RBI-triple pulled JC within 5-4 before Cole's two-run home run, back-to-back RBI-doubles from Lauren Lindsey and Tia'Rain Saunders made it 8-5.

An inning later, Hinds was threatening with two on and two outs before a relay from Luckett-Cole-Pope gunned out a Lady Eagle runner at the plate to close out the fifth.

Cole homered again in the sixth and Maycee Knight doubled off the wall as Jones closed out a run-rule win.

Breley Boykin got the start and went three innings in a no-decision. James (11-2) got the win in 4.0 relief frames, allowing one hit with two strikeouts and a walk.

Eight Bobcats combined for 14 hits. Cole and Luckett had three hits apiece.

Game 2 – Jones 6, Hinds 3

The Bobcats jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second, got a fortunate call in the sixth and added two insurance runs in the seventh to complete the sweep.

Leading 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth and Luckett in the circle, Hinds found new life on a sac fly and RBI-single to pull within 4-3. After going to the bullpen for James, Jones got out of the first and third jam thanks to an interference call when a Hinds batter touched a ball in play.

Mycah Hall executed a perfect squeeze bunt to plate one insurance run and Luckett's RBI-groundout gave James a three-run cushion.

Luckett (5-4) went 4.2 for the win, allowing three runs on three hits, and James got her fourth save in 2.1 relief frames.

Hall and Cole had two hits apiece.
