Baseball Bobcats Hand Pearl River First Loss, Split Friday Matinee

ELLISVILLE – In a matchup between a pair of NJCAA Top 15 programs on Friday at Community Bank Park, No. 12 Jones used four shutout frames from Zach Flaskamp in relief to take the opener over No. 7 Pearl River, 8-3, before falling in the nightcap to split the day.

Jones moved to 5-5 on the season and handed PRCC its first loss of the year (7-1) in Game 1.

Weather permitting, Jones is scheduled to play at Copiah-Lincoln on Sunday in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.

Game 1 – Jones 8, Pearl River 3

Reigning MACCC and NJCAA Division II Pitcher of the Week Kameron Partridge logged five innings with five strikeouts and three walks for the win and Flaskamp tossed the final four and allowed just one hit to earn his first career save.

PRCC capitalized off a leadoff walk and led 1-0 after a half inning. JC answered with back-to-back home runs from DeeJay Booth and Preston Ratliff to take a 3-1 lead after one and they never looked back.

Ratliff added a two-out, two-run single to extend the Bobcat lead to 5-1 after two.

Kade Keeton answered a solo shot from Tate Parker in the third and JC led 7-2.

Flaskamp came on to start the sixth and mowed down PRCC hitters, striking out three and allowing one hit.

Murray Hutchinson, Ratliff and Colson Harris each had multiple hits in the win.

Game 2 – Pearl River 6, Jones 2

Tate Parker's second home run of the day set the tone for the Wildcats in the nightcap and PRCC used 3.2 shutout innings from Landon Harper on the hill.

Booth's RBI-groundout tied the game at 1-1 after one, scoring Hutchinson after a leadoff single and stolen base.

PRCC pushed back in front 3-1 in the second with Austen Izzio scoring on a wild pitch and Von Seibert scoring on an error.

Chase Honeycutt's infield bunt single pulled JC to 3-2 in the fourth, scoring Hunter French after a walk and stolen base.

John Griffin Bell's triple in the fifth helped PRCC rally for two runs in the fifth and extend the lead to 5-2.

Bobcat bats were stymied by Harper who allowed one hit the final three innings.

Dalton Rogers (1-1, 1.98 ERA) scattered six hits, eight strikeouts and three earned runs in 4.2 innings. He's now struck out 25 in his first three starts as a Bobcat.

Hunter LeBlanc singled and Brady Spring had a pinch-hit single in the game.
