ELLISVILLE – Jones College made
Newton Mealer a winner in his head coaching debut with the Bobcats.
The Bobcats forced 37 turnovers and were never threatened as they crushed Birmingham Sports Academy 103-48 here Monday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
Guard
Calvin Temple (Center Hill) had a solid, all-around game with 25 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and three steals to lead Jones. Guard
Lovell Smith (Brooklyn, New York) had 15 points, five steals and four assists. Guard
Kaeden Laws (Center Hill) had 14 points, seven steals and five assists. Forward
Cowandric Samuel (Jackson Callaway) had eight rebounds.
The Bobcats made 42-of-81 shots for 49 percent and hit 9-of-27 from 3-point range for 33 percent. Jones made 10-of-17 free throws.
Jones limited the Pelicans to a 16-of-49 performance from the field for 33 percent. BSA made just 1-of-9 3-pointers for 11 percent.
The Bobcats outrebounded the Pelicans, 47-31. Jones outscored BSA 37-0 on fast break points and 60-22 on points in the paint.
The Bobcats jumped out to a 13-2 lead in the game's first five minutes and led 53-16 at halftime. The closest BSA got in the second half was 72-38 with 9:40 remaining.
Jones' longest lead came at 101-41 with 2:37 left on a layup by
Kyron Pleas (Olive Branch).
Caleb Wade led the Pelicans with 12 points.
