No. 6 Bobcats drop season opener to Dyersburg State

ELLISVILLE – The Dyersburg State (Tennessee) Eagles scored three runs in the top of the first inning and went on to beat No. 6 Jones College 9-5 here Friday at Community Bank Park.
 
It was the season opener for the Bobcats.
 
Jones received two singles and three RBIs from Bailee Hendon (Vancleave) and O'Neill Burgos (Brookhaven Academy) had two singles. Kirkland Trahan (Madison Central) had a double with Murray Hutchinson (Madison Central) and Hayden Harris (Pontotoc) adding singles.
 
Starting pitcher Kameron Partridge (West Lauderdale) went 3.0 innings and took the loss. He allowed four runs, seven hits, walked none and struck out two. Zach Flaskamp (Southeast Lauderdale) went 2.1 innings, giving up three runs, three hits, one walk and notched three strikeouts. Coleton Ausbern (Nettleton) tossed 1.2 innings, allowing an unearned run, a hit and posted a strikeout. Andrew Nix (Stringer) went the final 2.0 innings, giving up an unearned run, two hits and had two strikeouts.
 
Kameron Wells tripled and singled for the Eagles with Lane Harris getting two singles and three RBIs. 
 
J.C. Gilmore pitched 2.1 innings of relief and was credited with the win. He allowed one run, one hit, walked two and struck out three. Iroel Ruiz pitched the final two innings and had four strikeouts.
 
The Bobcats cut the lead to 3-2 in the second inning and were down 5-4 after the fourth, but could never take the lead
 
Dyersburg St. improves to 4-0.
 
The teams will play a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday. Both games will seven innings.
